  • Positive ANA question

During routine bloodwork, I had a positive ANA. I have learned this is a test for auto-immune diseases, such as rumitoid arthritis, lupus, etc. I do not have any symptoms for anything other than IC and asthma. My doctor is not concerned at this time, because the numbers ar very low.

My question is, has anyone ever had a positive ANA and only have IC?
I am wondering if IC could cause a positive ANA result.

From what I know, no, I don't think the IC can cause an elevated ANA. There is something called lupus cystitis which would explain IC symptoms in those with lupus and sjogrens. Sometimes people have an elevated ANA with no symptoms and it doesn't sound like your doc is concerned since you have no symptoms.

My suggestion is to listen to what your doctor is saying --- if you don't have confidence in what you are hearing, then a second opinion would be the next step to take.

      Warm hugs,
