  • Urethral Diverticulum

HI, I had an MRI on Wed which showed a urethral diverticulum. It is tiny but causing an aggravation of my IC symptoms not to mention chronic infections. In addition to infection pain, IC pain, I have been experiencing bubbles and dribbling post void. I am presently seeing Dr. Bearss in Montana, but as a Canadian I have no medical insurance for the U.S. I have asked my family doc to refer me, a third time to another Urologist here in Calgary, ALberta or in B.C. I have been doing research and it seems as though surgery is the only option, as it has been causing recurrent infections. Anyone else had this? Any advice other advice? I am feeling overwhelmed. I am talking about my pain with friends and a therapist, but it is the long wait times and useless Urologists in Alberta that is causing me serious psychological distress. help!

I haven't been diagnosed with this, but do know some things you might try to help avoid infections. If you're taking tub baths, you might want to switch to taking showers. Avoid using soap directly on the urethra. The same applies to toilet tissue --- and blot, don't wipe, after urinating. And drink lots of water --- six to eight cups per day --- to help keep your urine diluted.

I know it's difficult to wait for appointments. I hope you can be seen quickly.
