  • burning with urination...

I have been having severe burning with urination although it when the pee hits the vulva. Sorry if this is TMI but I'm raw and inflammed all over my vulva and for no reason. It feels like I have scratches down there. I have been to the 5 different dr's about this problems and it only seems to come when I have a period. I got my IUD placed in aug 10 and havent had a period since then except for last month and this month. I havent been scratching at all. Nothing seems to help except aquafora and that only coats the vulva. When I pee and it hits the vulva it feels like sharp stabbing pain. Can the ph of your urine make this worse? If yes (which I think yes) what can you take that is IC safe to reduce the ph? I have tried tums and they help somewhat but I want to find something that is more IC friendly. The tums are berry flavored and that is a no no for me since im fructose intolerant. I have never had this symptom (burning with urination) but my heart goes out to anyone who has this. It is the worst imaginable thing. I'm scared to drink because it hurts so bad to pee. I'm trying to stay hydrated (I only drink water and milk) but there has to be something else to help.

One of my gyn said this was an itch scratch cycle and I had to break it. She gave me antibiotics (forget the name) and prednisone and the prednisone helped it greatly. The only down side is you cant take prednisone long term and I wouldn't even if my dr said to. It causes severe weight gain, acne and irritability in me.

I was really raw all over from a medication and it burnt some on the boards suggested I apply vit e oil and with in a few days it helpped a lot and cleared up completely pretty fast after that.

I bet it is from what ever you are using for your peroid, type of pad or tampoon.

      Mg,
I use panty liners everyday because I have excessive discharge.

I have used lidocain, cold packs and pyridium and they don't really help. I will try the vitamin oil.

        urine ph

I have definitely noticed a connection to my urine ph and burning. Strangely enough, I first made this connection after eating roasted asparagus. My urine had an awful odor, but I had absolutely no burning for the first time that day. Asparagus is alkaline. What also helps me is 1 tsp. of baking soda in 8 oz. water (well mixed). It is an aquired taste and I think it is not recommended for someone with high blood pressure. But it helps me when my urine is too acidic and burning way too much. Hope you get relief soon!

The panty liners can be a problem. I use them and had to try several brands before I found something that isn't irritating.

Burning is one of my worst problems. My doctor suggested using a little coconut oil on my skin before I go to the bathroom. You might try that. It really is soothing to your skin anyway and protects the skin from the urine. I agree, burning is just horrible.
            treatment:
-I follow the IC diet to the letter
            -acupuncture and chinese herbs
            -Prelief
            -UTA
            -instillations as needed
-beginning yoga and specialized yoga for breathing and relaxation
            -Wellbutrin
            -Klonopin

Rinsing my skin off after urinating, warm baths with baking soda, and applying pure vitamin E oil helped me the most. Before menopause I always made sure I used all cotton pads and liners that were not bleached with chlorine that I found in a local health food store.

can you buy vit e and coconut oil at any store? Like walgreens, kroger, cvs?

Also, I guess I didn't make this point clear enough. I wear pantiliners EVERYDAY and have had days where this doesnt happen so I dont think its them causing irritation.

I buy my vit E at a health food store to make sure there are no added preservatives or anything else in it. The pantyliners may not have been the cause of my irritation, but when I was very irritated they didn't help and when I went to the all cotton non bleach ones I saw a big difference.

I ended up using the smallest Tena panty liners --- they are actually made for incontinence. I don't have leakage, but when I have frequency issues, the liners help avoid any dampness on my underpants. The only place I seem to find them is Walmart.

You don't need to wear the pantyliners everyday for them to be the problem, it can be something you use occsionally, or it may take a few days after use for it to bother you.

Also I have read crisco is a good substitute for the vit E and coconut oil, as it is much cheaper than either of the other 2.

                        Mg,
I'm unclear with what your saying but I wear pantiliners everyday because I have excessive discharge and if I don't wear them my underwear get wet and it irritates it more down there. Also it makes my vulva very itchy. Thankfully this problems has subsided but I have to find something to help when it does return. It always does. I believe it happens because when I bleed my vaginal tissue changes and makes it irritated and stuff.

To clarify I didn't mean you particularly, I meant for anyone to wear a pantie liner one day it may not effect their skin for a few days.

Lots of people do find pantie liners to be an irritant I just meant not that you don't need one, but the one you are using maybe causing your problems.

My saying about the Crisco, is people suggested you use vit e oil or coconut oil on your skin, to sooth it and too give it a protective layer against the urine and the pantie liner's.

I have just read Crisco works just as well as the other 2 options but a lot cheaper.

When my skin has an out break I use prescription hemorrhoid Ont. It is made for skin in that area, it has an antiinflamitory component, and a freezing part to relieve pain and itch.
It also offers a barrier as well, you can apply it 4 x's per day, so I alternate this with vit e oil, both are soothing and seem to help my skin to heal up sooner.

Don't buy OTC hemorrhoid Ont, it is no where near the same stuff, and it does have stuff in it that can make your skin worse.

Ask your Dr. about trying this, when my Dr. first gave this too me, I was skeptical, but it works.

I hope I explained this better. MG
