  • Went to ER but not for bladder

Was eating dinner Thursday night when my food got stuck half way down my esophagas. Who ever heard of such a thing. Started throwing up flem but no food. After doing that for 1/2 hour decided to head to the ER. I will say this was much more painful then the bladder. They gave me a medicine to try and throw it up. Did some but after 5 hours of throwing up and feeling like I was trying to swallow a giant stone I gave in and drove 30 minutes to the other hospital to have them push it on down. (Did the tub down the throat.) Found out no only is my eurethra to small around (had it stretched twice) my esophagas is only a 3rd of what it should be but how come the sudden problem?? I'm thinking maybe meds? So, I have been on an all liquid diet since yesterday morning. Monday I go to have it stretched but wondering has anyone else had this done and if so how bad or good was it? Will say I was terrified of having them do the thing down my throat to push the food through but I never woke up during it. Told the doc and nurses over and over..I don't care what you do just make sure I don't wake up. Told them over and over how I woke up in the middle of the colonoscopy. Doctor was really nice and happy and wide awake for him havng to get up out of bed at midnight. I'm having 2nd thoughts of not doing it but think it's just gitters. I'm having a hard time getting liquids down at times. Guess I was standing in the 2nd hand parts line when I was made.

I haven't had that problem but I do have a friend who has had her asophagus dilated several times over the past few years. She does fine most of the time.

I hope the procedure helps you.

      Warm hugs,
      Donna

I take vicoden, celexa, hydroxyzine and meclizine but I'm wondering if it was caused from the vicoden and celexa? I only take the celexa once in a while lately because it caused such bad heart burn. Thursday night the doctor could have done what ever he wanted to because I was to worn out (between throwing up and medicines they gave me) I just wanted it over with. Now that I don't feel like I'm going to kick the bucket I have turned into a wimp again.
Will say it is the best diet ever. Nothing but liquids and I have lost 5 pounds since Thursday night. I am really hungry. So hungry I was thinking about eating some of the cats canned food.
Bad part is one of my cats ,who has IC also, got worse because of it. I wasn't here to give her the medicine she has or to put her to bed but all in all the cats seemed to survive.
I just hope I don't wake up during the procedure....don't wake up.......don't wake up.....

Oh, my goodness....that has to be scary.

Regarding the dialation.....my 38 y/o daughter had that done last year and came out feeling wonderful. She wishes she could have it done routinely because it helped her symptoms so much. She also woke up once during an endoscopy and was scared to have this done again, so she repeated over and over to please knock her out so she didn't feel anything....they did and boy was she groggy afterward, but didn't wake up!!!!! For her, it was a good experience and would have it done again and again if needed.

I DO have food stuck in my esophagus numerous times but my endoscopy showed Candida which can also cause that. I have to literally make myself gag to get the food up and like you, the pain in the chest area is horrible. I try to take water to help flush it down, but can't even get a mouth full because it has no place to go. VERY scary and I see it happening more and more often.

The Gastro who did my endo gave me Diflucan for 14 days to help the yeast infection and then again. I fear taking antibotics because they can add to the yeast problem. I don't understand it and fear I won't be able to get it up or down some day too. My esophagus does seem normal I'm assuming.

Take care.....please let us know how you do.

          Prayers.....
Never heard of IC til suspected....Never knew so many suffer from it. Praying for a cure. I've found answers...so can you...keep the hope.

I have not had mine streached but my FIL has his done every couple of years and he feels nothing when he is out and little to no pain afterwards.

It also works well for him, in his case it does narrow up again over time, but they just redo the procedure.

I would just do the same and stress you do not want to be awake and do not want to wake up.

I am sure you should do this you don't want a repeat of what you just went through I am sure it was terrible.

You may be nervous but I am sure you will be glad once it is done.

                Good luck MG
My are with you all. May you all find a way to peace and joy in your lives.

Well, after waiting 1 1/2 hours past the appointment time I finally got in the back to have them get started with it all and a different doctor walked in. I thought he was the dctor you see sometimes before the real doctor. Nope, they had set it up with another doctor. I asked him and the nurse where is the doctor who did it in the ER? She told me he was only there twice a month because he was the CEO. Told them I wanted him. No one was happy with me and I wasn't to happy with them either and I was going to just forget about having it done all together but I made the appointment which is Oct. 13. I should be 20 pounds lighter by then but I won't have it done unless the doc who did it in the ER does it. I had no problems, he made sure I didn't wake up during it and he was happy and nice at midnight. Even with being woken up. So, at least now I can get organized and have things already set up by then.

                    I sure am hungry!

Been doing my all liquid mush diet and am getting really sick of boost, milk, ice-cream, mushy fruit and any other kind of mushy food you can think of along with soup. I can't really eat the heavy mushy food because then I get heartburn and when I burp up comes the food. Eeew, and I threw up all I ever want to do ever again Thursday night. Will be like this until I get that stretching thing done but will say this is one sure fire way to drop the pounds. Lost 7 pounds since Thursday night. Don't have much energy but I just do what I can. Want to get the house organzied before the 13th but I don't see that happening anytime soon. First I have to get organized so I can get organized.
