  • help!!! am I overreacting?

    This is a little graphic...

I went to my old urologist yesterday and she did a physical exam. I have had many of these over the years as I first sought medical help for my symptoms 7 years ago.

Usually they press on different areas down there, but this time she STROKED! First she stroked the inside of the labia majora, and I just about jumped out of my skin. She asked if it hurt and I said no, and I would have said something, but I was so caught off guard and didn't think she would do any more like that.

But then she stroked the clitoris. Not just once, but 3 times. Full finger long strokes.

I feel so molested. And now my ic and the nerves down there are flared up even more because I am so tense and I'm crying all the time.

Has anyone ever had a doctor use a stroking motion down there? Particularly on the clitoris?

Am I overreacting? Today I am going to look into reporting her.

Your response would be so appreciated.

My inclination would be to report what you felt. One report won't result in any problem, but if there are other reports, she will be investigated. I would contact the state licensing board with the comments.

        Am I overeacting?

I agree with with Donna and Greeneyes. That does not sound like acceptable behavior.

Male DR's have nurses come in the room when dealing with female pts for thir protection and yours, I would think it would be the right protocol for some else to be in the room even when the Dr. is a female.

I would report her, Donna is right and this is just a different way of examining people she will be able to explain herself, so she won't be in trouble.

Then again if she has a history it needs to stop.

At the very least she should know she is makeing people You feel violated, and that is just not acceptable in any way.

Sorry you have to deal with this.

Wow. I'm sorry you had to go through that. I go by this thinking: If something doesn't feel right to me, then it probably isn't. You should go by your gut instinct. Good luck with this.

You should listen to your gut! If your gut told you it was wrong it is. I will say that when I asked my IC doc about an odd pain I have and she checked my pelvic floor muscles on the inside she ran her finger from the top of the muscle to the bottom of it on both sides. That said, she explained what she was going to do before hand and had me tell her when it hurt. I also think in the beginning of my IC another doc used a Q-tip in a stroking motion (one time not three) to check for vv, but again he explained what he was doing. Again, if you felt it was wrong it was! I am so sorry you have to deal with this.
                Daily Meds:

                IC-Meds
Ditropan XL 5 BID, Elavil 50 QD, Elmiron 200 BID, Hydroxine 50 BID. As Needed: Bacofen 20, Prosed DS, Hydrocodone/Apap.

                Other Meds
                Adderal 10 QD, Remmeron 37 QD (I take 1 1/2 of 25 mg)

With the help of my doctor moving my meds around a bit by increasing this and decreasing that I have found a good combination of meds (for now and I pray a long time from now).

I agree...listen to your gut. I had a similar situation when I was a very young teenager. It was one of my first GYN exams. Just didn't seem right to me. I didn't tell my mother. I shook it off, but never went back to him, and a few years later he and the other doctor in his practice were arrested for "fondling" patients (I am writting this nicely).

So, with that being said...PLEASE report this, and keep us posted.

Wow, I am so sorry you had to go through that. I agree, trust your gut.

I've had tons of health professionals "down there" and no one has ever used a stroking motion, except when using a q-tip to check for vulvodynia, but it felt completely professional.

Also, I have never had a doc touch my clitoral area. I've been asked questions about it and docs have looked at it, but never touched.

Good luck with the paperwork and keep us posted.
                    Current treatment:
