    Hi,
I'm suffering from bacterial vaginal infections and read your post and wondered if you could help me. I'm on my third antibiotic' for this and yet I can still feel burning and still doesn't feel like it is clearing. I have a wet prep test done to see if there is bacteria and it keeps coming back positive and I read where you had been down this road and wondered what advice you could give me. I've also had the yeast infections from the anti's and at this point I'm scared it will never go away and I will never be able to have sex with my hubby again and I'm only 39 yrs old and so scared that this problem will remain. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks Rene

Just a thought, if you havent already done this, Ask them to identify the strain of bacteria. They might be able to do this in a pap smear or some other test. alot of times they diagnose these things just thru microscope and a whiff test.So they dont know the actual bacteria that causes it.
    good luck-JoJo

      Dear Rene:
The first thing to do is to find out what strain of bacteria it is-I hope that you do not have to explain this to your Dr. but in the event that you do, they can do a culture and sensitivity which means that they culture your bacteria and then put an antibiotic "strip"over the culture to see which antibiotic kills off that particular strain. If that does not work, ask about new DNA testing that can find strains of bacteria not found by conventional means. Make sure that you are tested for yeast. If you have systemic yeast from all of the antibiotics, you will continue to get vaginitis because this throws the normal flora of your vagina off by altering the PH and giving bacteria a great place to breed. There ARE tests for yeast, do no let your doctor treat you for yeast because you have some "yeasty" symptoms. Everyone thinks that long term use of anti yeast medication is okay, but let me tell you it is not. It can cause serious complications down the road and unless you really need to be on long term use, do not do it. Of course, this is just my opinion from experience and I am sure that many will not agree with me so just take what I write for what it is worth.
Next, try to find out why you keep getting bacterial infections. Your vaginal infections are not helping your bladder out because it is like a chicken and egg thing-the bacteria can be coming from your bladder or the bladder could be inflammed from the vagina. I do not know where you live, but if I were you, I would try to find a GYN who specializes in vaginitis. Many large teaching hospitals have at least one on staff and they really know things your average obgyn does not.
Lastly, if you are 39, you make have a hormonal component there so ask him/her to check your tissues to see if you are will estrogenized. If you are not, tiny tears can form when you try to have sex and bacteria breed there.
Please note that I am not a health care provider and I am only writing what I have learned from personal experience. Nothing I say should take the place of finding a competent GYN to help with your medical conditions. This being said, feel free to contact me if I can be of any additionl information.
