  • Vulvar Vestibulitis - resources to find Dr.

    Hi all,

I was diagnosed with IC two years ago and seem to have finally gotten that under control. But about six months ago I started having pain with intercourse (gyno told me to have a glass of wine and just "relax"...grrrr!) and finally three months ago I saw a new gyno, who did the Q-tip test and said I was a textbook vestibulitus case. She put me on Elavil to take at night and licodaine cream to use prior to intercourse. Three months later and it hasn't gotten better, I saw her again yesterday and she said she wasn't sure what else to try....sigh....

Sorry to be so long-winded...I wanted to ask about resources to find a doc in Georgia who specializes in Vulvodynia/Vestibulitus, etc - are there any websites or sources you could recomend to find a specialist? Or is there anyone here who lives in GA and has a great gyno?

    Thanks very much!!

    Hi Mary,

I live in the Atlanta area and also have VV. I just started seeing this new OB/GYN who is very empathetic and knowledgeable about the condition (and its relationship to IC.) His name is Dr. Michael Dawson and he is at the Emory Clinic Crawford Long.

Poetgirl, thank you so much for the info! I will definitely contact Dr. Dawson.

Just the possibility that another docter might be able to help makes me feel a little better....

Hi , May I ask a question? What are the symptoms of VV? Is it burning and feel like inflammation up there? Just wondering. I am burning today for some reason. I am on antibotics for bacteria in my urine and my discharge. Sorry to be so gross. Thanks for answerig me. Hang in there. There is hope. This too shall pass.

          Deb,

The symptoms can vary from person to person, but I typically experience burning and sometimes flat out nerve pain, along with some frequency/urgency when the VV flares up. I also have a couple of lesions on my vulva that get inflamed when the symptoms start up. It usually is trigged by my menstrual cycle (usually about a week or so before I get my period) and often if I have sex (although if I am very careful I can sometimes keep sex from causing it to flare up.) Sometimes I think it is also triggered by the fact that I almost always wear panti-liners because I have some occassional post-void dribbling or mild urge incontinence. It doesn't let things breathe the way they should, especially if you're like me and sit at a desk all day.

              auntiedebbief,
If you are on an antibiotic you could have a vaginal infection. Check into it.

Hi Ginny, that is another reason I am on antibotics, I had a discharge and bacetreia in my urine. Uro put me on flagaly. I will keep an eye on it and let the uro know what is going on. I don't have the discharge anymore. Thanks for caring. Hang in there. There is hope. grouphug grouphug
