Dana:
I have IC, VV, and IBS too.My treatmentfor the VV is Pelvic Floor PT and 40 mg of Prozac. Also if you could find a topical agent, like aloe vera lotion, which would have lidocaine (an anesthetic)

You can buy dextromethorphan capsules. If your drug store does not carry it ask them to order it.
I have been taking dextro for about a year, and it has really helped. I find that the capsules are easier and safer since they do not have any other fillers or ingredients that could aggreviate your IC.

Well I went out last night and bought some Vicks 44. I don't know if there is caffeine in this thing or what, but I could not fall asleep for the life of me. I felt strange right after taking it, like I had too much caffeine or something. I will not be taking that stuff again - even if I have a horrible cough!
Thanks anyway. Glad it works for you.

Yes Donna, I did talk to my gyno about it. He said that since I can not take the elavil and that this is the only thing that I've found to help, go for it! He said as a man he can't even begin to imagine how bad it must feel and said if you can help it, HELP IT ....he's a peach
{got kind of embarrassing walking around scratching my crotch like a mad woman;o)

Just as a precaution, if you take more than the recommended dosage listed on the bottle, be sure to check with your physician first --- especially if you're taking other medications.
(my usual precautionary message cause it can be so important).

You can buy it at any store, target, wal-mart, your corner drug store. I buy it at the cheapest place I can and I only buy the knock-off non-brand kind, I just make sure it has the dextromethorphan in it (you have to read the label because it's not in all cough medications) I take it as my body dictates. And, I just take a swig out of the bottle. I don't even measure it. There are some days I need 5 or 6 swigs, other days only 1 or 2. I've learned that if I listen to my body it will tell me when I'm due for alot of my meds.
Good LUCK Sending tons of prayers that it works as well for you as it does for me~

How many times a day do you take it and how much of it do you take? If I wanted to try it alone, where do you buy it, the health food store? What brand is the one you use in case I can't find one that has it in it?
Guess it can't help to try it.
Thanks so much.

Hi Dana! I use a cough medicine (OTC) with dextromethorphan in it.....you've got to read the label because not all of them have it. You can get just plain dextromethorphan alone but I can't take it, I gag it right back in. It is the ONLY thing that's helped me. When I asked my gyno about it (I don't take it as directed, I take it as body dictates) he said, "if it's working, why would you want to mess with it"......so, I'm probably the gal in front of you a target with a buggy full of cough medicine
Sure hope it works for you <img src="graemlins/grouphug.gif" border="0" alt="[grouphug]" />

Vulvar Vestibulitis Treatments
Has anyone had any luck with treatments for vulvar vestibulitis? My doc put me on Neurontin gradually up to 1200mgs a day. That didn't help and now told me to try SUMA from the health food store. Doesn't seem to be helping either. Not one med I have taken for my IC, VV or IBS has helped me at all. I'm starting to think I am resistant to all medications! I have had constant discharge for years and just recently acquired painful entry into the vagina. I can't even use a tampon anymore and sometimes if I just lean forward in a chair I feel the discomfort. I am single and the thought of getting intimate with a man and having to explain the discharge and not being able to have intercourse due to pain makes me cry.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
