  • Discharge

I've been having a really bad discharge problem for a while now and my GYN has tried everything. My paps come out normal sometimes showing a little yeast, but we treat that yeast and it doesn't stop. He told me that this is something I am just going to have to live with. I do not want to except this answer. I find it quite disgusting and also embarrassing when being intimate with someone. It's also a factor when I want to swim since I have to wear a pad every day. I also have to worry about carrying pads with me all the time since I have to change them at least 1-2 times a day.

I'm taking acidopholous now just b/c my GYN said it can't hurt me and could possibly help.

    Any advice?

    Thanks.

Yeah, I don't have any itching which is why I never thought it was a yeast infection. Mine is usually yellow, but sometimes is thick white too.

It's horrible! I remember when my mom came to visit me and she took off her pants and didn't have underwear on. I asked her why and she said that she never wears underwear. I said "I wish I could do that!".

      Aargh!

There are some disorders that doctors just don't know how to treat. So, that leaves us to our own devices. If it's possibly yeast related you could try a low-carb diet for awhile (I suggest Dr. Atkins), but there are lots of them out there. The yeast feeds on carbohydrates, so if you stop feeding it for awhile it should clear up. Another thought is that it might be hormone related. I know our female discharges change along with our monthly cycle. Now, there's a great book for finding the source of women's problems -- if I can remember the name of it (scratching my head) -- I think it is by something Northrup - Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom. If I have a chance I'll check and see what she says about the subject. She uses a combination of conventional and alternative treatments.

Thanks Brenda! I tried a no carb/no sugar diet for 10 weeks and it helped a little, but it never stopped. And to be honest, I don't know how anyone could give up carbs and sugar for the rest of their lives! I just couldn't do it! :-)

I HAVE BEEN DOING ALOT OF READING ON THIS WHOLE YEAST THING.(THE YEAST CONNECTION AND THE WOMAN,BY WILLIAM G CROOK)AND LOOKINGTHINGS UP ON COMP. AS FAR AS TAKING ACIDOLPHULIS FROM WHAT I READ THAT REPLACES THE GOOD BACTERIA BUT FIRST YOU HAVE TO GET RID OF THE BAD BACTERIA FOR EXAMPLE TAKING A ANTI-FUNGAL AGENT. THEY HAVE SOME OVER THE COUNTER. YOU WOULD BE AMAZED WHEN I TYPED IN CANDIDAS ALL THE STUFF ON THE INTERNET, MIGHT BE WORTH A TRY. FOR ONCE I WOULD LIKE TO TELL ONE OF THESE DRS. JUST TO LIVE WITH IT!! GOOD LUCK-JOJO

I have had this too since I had bacterial vaginosis 7 years ago. I let it bug me and went to tons of doctors and had unnecessary procedures. I got IC 2 weeks after the last procedure. If there's no odour and it's not offensive or itchy or anything, I'd say leave it alone. There's lots of variation in what's normal. I wish I had listened to the gynecologists who told me that, I'm 100% certain I wouldn't have IC now. Just my 0.02...

I've gone through periods where I've had lots of discharge, lots of itching, but little yeast. I swim a lot and also use the sauna - two things which seem to make it worse. I think my body might just be very sensitive to yeast.

To get through it I go through a (bizzare) procedure where I'll take Diflucan for a few days (I hate creams etc.) and most importantly for me, I wash my sheets (in bleach if I can), wash every single pair of pants - especially gym shorts and then wash every single pair of underwear and then iron the crotch to kill any yeast (it can be hard on underwear).

For me this makes a big difference, it's a lot of work, but pills alone don't always help me, I just seem to reinfect myself.

This may or may not help.

                  Good luck with it Dana.

                  Hugs,
                  Liisa

I agree with JOJO and highly recommend the book THE YEAST CONNECTION by Dr. Brooks. It helps you understand why there is always yeast in your body and when there is too much yeast what you can do about it. It also tells about how yeast can cause all kinds of symptoms people don't normally associate with yeast. I'm reading it myself right now and have already cut down on refined sugars and sweets as much as possible.
