Have you discussed this with your doctor? That would be the direction I would suggest.

        Hi,
I was diagnosed with this and my nurse practioner works with a women's health pharmacy and perscribed a estrogen cream/Vit. E mixture that I insert vaginally at night and then apply topically for 3 weeks..(I am on week 2) and then 3 times a week thereafter. So far, it seems to be working. The cream was mixed by the pharmacy and comes in a single tube. Hope that helps...I had hypersensitivity and dryness as my most significant symptoms...i also had a complete hysterctomy at age 34, so I give myself a Delestrogen injection once a month.
        Tina C. hi

I had burning for 6 years, finally with the use of estrogen cream and calcium citrate, 2 tablets with each meal, the irritation is minimal, sometimes none. Calcium citrate can be found at any vitamin store. Hope that helps.

I follow the low oxalate diet and also use a cream that is just a hypo allergenic plain vaginal cream that my pharmacy compounds with elmiron. It works best for me.

Another tip is to take a bath with a half cup to one cup of baking soda in it. Doing that helps me alot.

For vulvar vestibulitis pain/burning I take baking soda baths, I try not to wear underwear and loose pants or shorts when I am at home (especially sleeping) and I've found that applying a topical ointment like Gynecort helped me a lot. I also rinse with cool water after urinating to keep the urine from irritating the skin. And I take calcium citrate supplements twice a day. It does keep the discomfort to a minimum.

Tagamet works for me. It's a long term solution which took between 3 & 6 months to work. I started with 300mg 3x/day and now keep up a maintenance dose of 300mg 2x/day.

I could really use your help. I went on the "Burning" post and all of the replys I read were of real interest to me.
I am in the process of trying to diagnose what I have. I went to a Urologist at Stanford Medical in CA. he thought I had Pelvic Floor Tension Myalgia and suggested I go to weekly Physical Therapy which I have recently started.
                    My symptoms are as follows:
                    1. Sporatically, I feel discomfort after urinating for about 10 minutes. NOT ALL of the time and I have no sense of urgency or incontinence.
                    2. Sex is very painful. The opening feels very raw and any in/out motion is excruiating. It isn't painful if my husband is deep inside and doesn't move back and forth. Once I have an orgasm, I have to stop immediately.
                    3. EVERY time after sex, I experience painful buring when I urinate.
                    4. Sometimes I am very swollen and it is almost as if my muscles are bulging, but not always.
                    5. I can't not have sex for long at all.

If any of you could elborate on at least the BURNING part, that would be helpful. What have each of you been diagnosed with? Do you all have IC?

I have no SEX life and it has always caused a strain on my husband and I. Poor guy!! frown

                      Hi Sunny,

I have IC, OAB (overactive bladder) and vulvar vestibulitis. The symptoms you describe during and after sex were very similar to what I went through prior to starting treatment.

Unfortunately, a lot of these conditions overlap and their symptoms mimic/exacerbate each other so it's often hard to get a clear sense exactly what is going on. Much of the burning and rawness you describe I have experienced and in my case it's usually from the vulvar vestibulitis, unless if I'm in a really bad IC flare (or have a UTI.) My sex life was pretty much non-existent until I was able to get the worst of the VV symptoms under control. I would recommend going to some of the vulvodynia sites that are out on the internet (don't have the URLs handy but a Google search will bring them up) and try following some of their recommendations for treatment. They may provide you with some relief. Also, you may want to schedule an appointment with your gynecologist to discuss symptoms and to have him/her administer the "Q-tip" test to see if you have certain pain points typically associated with vulvar vestibulitis.

                      Take care!
