• Vulvodynia- What is it?

I have been having this pain during intercourse. But it is not the same pain as when my bladder is inflamed. It is a burning almost like the inside of the vagina is raw. But I don't have any other symptoms of a yeast infection. Any one have a clue? I noticed someone suggested diabetics. What is Vulvodynia. Newly wed looking for answers?

I have experienced the same burning you describe since even before I started having bladder problems. A lovely dissapointment for my honeymoon. When I explained this to my gyn I alternately heard that I either was not using enough lubrication or that I was involuntarily contracting my muscles. I don't believe either was true, but now that I have IC I'm in even worse shape. You have my sympathies, it is awful.

Another possibility that I had previously considered was my problem, was something related to allergies. I have very sensitive skin which can turn red and inflammed and itchy from rubbing. This condition is called dermographism. It is relieved by antihystamines. I didn't take the opportunity to test this theory before the IC started on me, so I really don't know if it would have helped.

I think you're going to have to be very persistent with your doc in order to get an answer or you will hear the same lame explanations I got.

      Good Luck.

Yep..I KNOW what you are saying! I too went thru 2 years of vaginal creams anti biotic gels, diflucan and even good ole fashion gentian violet! I just wanted to soothe the rawness and throbbing I felt. Nothing I tried helped, except mixing aloe veragel and vit e, chilling it,then slatering it all inside to help soothe. Only after I was recently diagnosed with IC, and started atarax, ditropan and elavil has that feeling that consumed my days subsided. I discoverd that in my case, the vag pain is actually cased by my urethra being kinked so to speak, as well as ic ...and that was causing all the trobbing raw feelings. Also my hormones were not balanced and that did contribute to dryness and thin vag tissues as well. I cant tell you what a difference it has been since starting the meds. Maybe you just need to find what meds work for you. I encourage you to not stop until the pain stops! I know that pain will drive tyou nuts if you dont get relief! I would be in a basket by now lol! Good luck to you my dear Debbie
