    abnormal smear- need colposcopy really worried

    Hi there

    I have just had a letter to say I have moderate abnormal cells from my cervical smear test and have to go for colposcopy.

    I am so terrified of this procedure and what this means!!! Can anyone give me more info of a colposcopy and help give me some reassurance please?

    Started with symptoms 2004 after a severe infection.
    Was diagnosed with IC Feb 2006 after cystoscopy.
    Diagnosed with vulvodyina and PN in july 2006.
    Dignosed with ME and IBS Oct 2006.
    Currently taking Amytriptaline 50mg, regular pain killers and birth control!
    Also doing IC diet and regular use of heat packs.
    Still struggling with IC and controling my symptoms so looking for some help

    also recently had abnormal pap, CIN III and just had LEEP done 2007

    I am going through the same thing, boy it seems like you and and I have alot in common..What they will do next is probably take a biopsy. This is only slightly painful and then see how that comes back, if it comes back positive then your doctor will give you a few options and if it comes back neg then they will just continue to watch it and check you every six months..Please feel free to PM me anytime you know im always here for you if you need me..

    Meds For IC: Lyrica-25mg Glucosamine-500 MSM-500mg, Prosed Ds -When Flaring

    Other Meds: Levlite- Continious Birtcontrol, Micardis-40mg for High Blood Pressure

    Meds I have Tried:
    Topamax,Tofranil, Elmiron, Atarax, Cymbalta, Elavil, Enablex, Detral La, Prydium.
    Lexapro< Bad reaction to this med!
    Intstills, could not continue them due to some kind of reaction after 3rd instill. Tasted the lidocaine in my mouth, tongue and lips went numb then went into what seemed like a panic attack. Shaking, racing heart, tingling face/head, blood pressure shot up..

    Dx With IC in Nov 2006 with Hydro/Cysto
    Hydro/Cysto Caused Bladder to Rupture.

    Other Dxs-Vulvodynia,Fibro, Endo, IBS, HPV, Migraines, Spastic Colon, Mild Dysplasia.

      Hi ronda

      Yes we are very similar are you sure we werent separated at birth??!! why is it that some people like us unlucky ladies seem to have so many health problems and others never have any health problems.

            HI Ladies

            well i had my colposcopy and had to have a LEEP. My god that was the worst thing I have ever been through EVER!!! I fainted 3 times and ended up losing a lot of blood!!!
            I also put me in a terrible IC flare for about 3 months and I took so much time off work...my doctor didnt understand how LEEP could effect my IC but trust me it did!!!

            Anyway got my results which showed it was worse than they thought and I had CIN III and have to wait untill december to have another colposcopy to see if they got all the bad cells.

            I am terrified beyound belief!! this is my first smear and I never thought I would go through this at my age!!!

            do you think Leep can make IC worse?? Is there a chance that this CINIII can come back?? I am dreading my next colposcopy and no that if I have to have another LEEP they will have to put me asleep!!!!

            My doctor said its VERY VERY rare and should turn back to normal but he's a new doctor and I dont trust him completely if you know what I mean...but he does seem nice.

            My doctor never mentioned my fertility etc as he said it wouldnt effect it but I know if I have to have another LEEP it might effect my chances of becoming pregnant so I am really nervous about this?!! I am not sleeping and could do with some support.

              ((((((((((kjd))))))))))))))) I am so sorry the leep was so painful.. I am so affraid, because I have to have another bi-op Oct 1st and if it is the results are worse than last time I will have to have the leep done.. From your experience it looks like I do not want to have to go through this.. I bet that is why my GYN is just waiting and watching..She knows I have severe IC and has been hesitant on doing the proceedure she said she will use that as the last resort.. So I have been having biopsies every 6 months and my dysplasia so far has not gotten any worse..
              But enough about me and back to you...
              Again I am so sorry you had to endure that kind of pain after everything else with IC, my heart goes out to you..If you want to chat you know where to find me.. Please keep me imformed..

                oh Rhonda, I know how you feel. I went through the same process when eventually they said right we need to do the LEEP! I would have it done again though if need be as I just wanted to get rid of the horrible cells if you know what I mean....but its such a worrying time waiting for the results isnt it??!!

                I guess it worries me that they havent all been taken away..or if they come back??!! Ok I know the chances are slim but I'm pretty unlucky!!!

                Anyone know what causes these cell changes??
                I will keep you informed of my next appointment...just waiting for it to come through and please also keep me informed of how you are getting on Rhonda.
