  • Which antidepressants can help with V V ?

Besides the tryciclic antidpepressants, Elavil=amytriptiline and Northiptiline, etc, Do SSRI (Zolof, Paxil, etc) help with vulvar pain? I've heard Cymbalta treats both pain and depression but has stronger side effects. can someone share if you got relief of pain with a SSRI antidepressant?

I can no longer postpone treating my depression. I'm taking Elavil and not sure if I can take it together wit anotehr anitdepresant.
I have to wai 1 month for an appointmet with a psychiatrist and I'm trying to find out what is helping people with my condition. Some docotrs are not very familiarized with IV and VV.

Anyone takes Elavil + another antidepresant at teh same time?

The cymbalta has helped me too with depression. Pain--not so much help (except for the physical pain directly attributed to depression) BUT I only take half the normal starting dose (I take 30 mgs) bc I am so sensitive to all drugs.

I have to say, cymbalta has the fewest side-effects of any antidepressant I've ever taken. It has also had the most anti-depressant activity for me. For me elavil and the other tricyclics are close to impossible to tolerate, though if I did not have to work and could sleep 12 hours per day they might be OK. Plus they did nothing for my particular depression.

Depression is like anything else I guess. There is no one-size-fits all approach. I think cymbalta is supposed to be activating, but I must take it at night.

I feel for you. Depression is awful--even worse than IC. Of course the former can lead to the latter.

I think they should develop a pain scale not one 1 -10 basis, but on a "what would you give up to get rid of this particular pain" basis.

I remember thinking when depressed that I'd gladly live without both legs to be rid of it. With IC, I'd trade a feet or hands to be rid of it.

I know it sounds silly, but this is where the mid sometimes goes with pain, physical or emotional.

      Best of luck to you!
