  • Vaginal Valium for Vulvodynia?

So my pt that I used to see said that my vulva pain was being caused or was continuing because of PFD - the theory goes that if you can sort out the pf the rest of the pain reduces.

So this got me to thinking - I know how to relax the pf when I concentrate but it is evident that as soon as my trail of thought goes to something else or I need to concentrate it tightens up again, could this be why my pain is continuing?

I thought Vaginal Valium may help combat the problem of me involuntarily tightening my pf.

Anyone use this for Vulvodynia. My docs by the way have not even heard of Vaginal Valium.

It can't hurt to give it a try. Vaginal valium helped me a lot. I've been off of it for awhile, but still have some on hand for flares. I don't know how much it helped my VV, but it definitely helps the pelvic floor/bladder, so I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to also help vulvar problems. Everything's connected.... I take oral valium now, but the vaginal stuff was much more helpful when I was first starting my treatment.

a big YES just got valium supp to help me through the IC and VV flair that came from PT . I Had to stop PT. The valium supp help the PFD and bladder. I would use one at night and could sleep 4hrs no getting up to pee. It helped IC flair with pain in bladder filling up pain was an 8 with valium a 3.
I know gals use them everynight . I will use them for bad flairs but cant afford to use them every night.......my insurance does not cover them .
I paid 60.00 for 20 but worth every penny.

I have none now and PT is on hold for me as it caused too much pain and flair

I say yes to trying them......only wish I had them when I was trying to work fulltime .....would been nice on night before as they help bladder pain and nocturia .

you have my vote try them. I still had some VV burning the next AM even with the valium supp the night b4 but makes sense though .

Cindy, it can make you drowsy, especially at first. If you're only using one a day, I'd recommend using it right before bed. Usually you won't get that side effect by the time you wake up.

Is vaginal Valium a vaginal suppository? I'm just trying to understand how it works.

                Thanks!

Valium can be compounded into a vaginal suppository by a compounding pharmacy. Some people have just used the valium pill inserted without the compounding cream because it is way less expensive. I actually tried an ativan tablet inserted into the vagina a long time ago out of desperation (lol) and surprisingly it worked when my pelvic floor was causing me a lot of spasming pain and burning.

Hmm, Maybe I will just try regular valium before spending out on the compounded stuff

If it is taken orally, is there a difference in Valium and Ativan? Is one more effective than the other?

I need some relief soon and a very tiny dose of Ativan (oral) took the edge off. I was desperate!!

Any advice would be most appreciated!

They're both benzos but valium has always been considered the better muscle relaxer. I never saw much difference in the two though, and Ativan has worked very well for me in relaxing my pelvic floor muscles.
