    Medication for Pain and depression

    I'm taking Elavil (5 to 10 mg) for Vulvudinya and IC pain. It helps me at that low dosis to manage the pain. I can't take a higher dosis b/c at 15 or 20 mg I get eye pain as side effect.

    I've been depressed for while b/c of this condition. I have my good days but when I have bad days it hit me harder and harder in the emotional part. It's that bad that I develop cold sores as a result of it.
    I have decided, finally, to take antidepressants to treat my depression. But I don't know if I can take Elavil (which is a tryciclic antidep) and take another medication like a SSRI antidepressant at the same time. My GP says it is ok but my Gyno suggested to see a specialist (psychiatrist) and probbably he'll know what the best medication is. I have an appointment in 1 month.
    I'm just trying to see if any of you take Elavil or northiptyline and medication for depression at the same time.
    Laser cervical surgery after abnormal pap (moderate dysplasia) in 3/2004
    UTIs since mid 2004
    Recurrent yeast infections since mid 2005
    IC dx 3/2006
    V V dx 12/2006
    Other conditions: IBS, allergies, dry eyes.

    Current IC medications:
    Elavil (since 12/06) 10 mg;
    Cysta Q (since 5/07)
    Rephresh acid jel every 3 days
    D-mannose, fish oil, Calcium Citrate, Multivitamins & garlic pills (sometimes)
    Probiotics Femdophilus or other brands
    Gy-Na-Tren for yeast infections (started using it as needed since 2010)
    Other Rx:Omeprazole 20mg; benadryl as needed, Restasis

    Past Meds and why I stopped them:
    Elmiron: March to September 2006: headaches
    Lyrica:2 weeks in 2006: headaches
    Cystoprotek: from Jan to April 2007: nausea
    Femcon Fe (2/07 to 10/07):caused spotting/bleeding
    BCP:Loestrin (since Ocotber 2007) to stop spotting for 2 months. V V worse. Stopped the pill in Nov 07.

    Hello,
    I took Cymbalta with Elavil and it worked great for my depression, we were hoping it would help with the pain to. It might be helping some but I know it has saved me from the depression..Good luck...

    Meds For IC: Lyrica-25mg Glucosamine-500 MSM-500mg, Prosed Ds -When Flaring

    Other Meds: Levlite- Continious Birtcontrol, Micardis-40mg for High Blood Pressure

    Meds I have Tried:
    Topamax,Tofranil, Elmiron, Atarax, Cymbalta, Elavil, Enablex, Detral La, Prydium.
    Lexapro< Bad reaction to this med!
    Intstills, could not continue them due to some kind of reaction after 3rd instill. Tasted the lidocaine in my mouth, tongue and lips went numb then went into what seemed like a panic attack. Shaking, racing heart, tingling face/head, blood pressure shot up..

    Dx With IC in Nov 2006 with Hydro/Cysto
    Hydro/Cysto Caused Bladder to Rupture.

    Other Dxs-Vulvodynia,Fibro, Endo, IBS, HPV, Migraines, Spastic Colon, Mild Dysplasia.

      Rhonda, are you still taking both Elavil and Cymbalata? if you don't mind , what dosis? and how long ago you started this treatment.
      I'm glad it is helping you depression. Hvae you noticed any improvements with your overall health after managing your depression?
      I'm trying to brek the drepression ->sickness->more dperession->more sickness cycle. I belive in mind body connection and now I'm looking for something that will help my deprssion.

        SMR ..
        I was taking 25mg of elavil and 60mg of Cymbalta.. I am still on Cymbalta but had to get off the elavil due to much weight gain..But while I was on both I was feeling great.. I was almost pain free and like I said no depression..
        I am still on 60mg of Cymbalta and now taking Topamax..But the elavil worked better for me..But like I said just couldnt comtinue to gain the weight at the rapid pace I was gaining it.. Hope this helps..

          Thanks for the reply. I've heard nortriptyline has less side effects than elavil and maybe you should consider it.
          I'm gaining some weight wit Elavil too, but so far I'm not worried about it b/c I was weighting 98lb in January and now 106 lbs which is actually good for me. I wouldn't want to gain more weight though since Im very petite...but right now my priority is to control pain and depression.

          I know many people complain about weight gain with Elavil and stop it b/c of that. Do we gain weith on Elavil because it makes us hungrier? or b/c the drug itself causes the weight gain?
          Would we still gain weight if we control, i.e our sugar cravings? or we'll gain weight regardless, just wondering (?)

              Zoloft

              I'm on my 4th day of 25mg Zoloft. I still take 5mg of Elavil or 10mg.
              I think Zoloft is starting to worsen my dry eyes, I have dry eye pain as well as a headache and neck pain so I'm pretty sure is the Zoloft. I really wanted this to work. I'll probbably have to stop it and talk to my doctor on Monday...my other 2 options would be Lexapro (or Celexa) and lastly Cymbalta ....

              Anyone know if this kind of symptoms at the begining of the medication end up dissapearing?
