I got diagnosed with IC in 2008 at 18 and got very depressed for a while. I still occasionally such a now start to get really frustrated and sad about how much this disease still impacts my life. What helped me tremendously was seeing a therapist! In fact, my therapist is near my house and I am in college in a different state, but feeling so down in the dumps I just made a phone appointment with her.

I think having someone you can talk to and work through your feelings really makes a difference. I honestly did not think it would at first, because a therapist cannot help with the pain but they can help you determine strategies to deal with the stress aspect and the anxiety and depression which just make being in pain so much worse.

    Just keep holding on!!

Please talk with your doctor about your depression. Most IC patients do not worsen beyond the stage when they are developing the disease. My IC did it's progression in the months before I was diagnosed --- once I had a diagnosis and began treatment I began to feel better. Now, 36 years later, I feel better than I did in 1975 when I was diagnosed.

    Sending encouraging hugs,
    Donna

    Depressed help!

I got diagnosed in 09, didn't really sink in how much this was/is going to change my life. I've been getting really depressed... Every day is a constant battle. I'm in school to be a RN right now and I only have 1 more year left...and it seems like I did all this work for nothing if I can't practice. I'm scared to see how bad things will be when I'm 40 or even 50. I'm on 20 right now, and I've been suffering since I went through puberty. I hope I can come to terms with my disease but it is so hard. I keep asking why me? I'm scared that I wont be able to work anymore and I'll have to move back in with my parents
