alot of people dont understand IC. I think alot of my family still dont understand it. its not like diabetes or heart disease were alot of people are known to suffer from. but its still a rare disease that doesnt get the attention that other diseases get. the pain of IC is horrible. finding a good therapist may be tricky. I hope that you find one who is going to be understanding of your pain and support you really soon good luck
Diagnosed with IC October 2009- through bladder biopsy (no glomerations or hunners ulcers found, just irritation)

    I have moderate-severe IC

Currently stopped taking all medications due to pregnancy

I think thats good you are looking though. I think you find someone who will be understanding but it might take a few. Maybe someone who deals more with people who have chronic diseases?

If you do some research you can find what they specialize in treating. Cindi is right you need to find one that is good with chronic illnesses or pain. Someone doesn't have to understand IC to understand that you are going thru a lot. Maybe when you schedule your next appt ask what their specialty is, or maybe a pain clinic could give you a referrel. Don't give up.

I am so very lucky. My counselor (at school) and its free. She has fibromyalgia and lots of food allergies so she understands exactly what I'm going through. She also teaches stress management so she is trying to teach me how to manage my stress.. Sometimes it feels so good to tell someone how your feeling...counseling has always helped me. much better than antidepressants. Good luck

Current Meds: Butrans patch, welbutrin, lamictol, geodon, xanax, aldactone, linzess, topimax, trazadone and diflucan as needed.

Meds tried before: Elmiron, elavil, antibiotics, welbutrin, cymbalta, prozac, nerve blocks, instills, nyastatin, flexerol, percocet, naproxen (which was what I was given for pain for years).

I had someone tell me if I mention suicide to her that she won't help me at all.

I have IC, acid reflux disease, aspergers syndrome and learning disability.
Sorry you had to a bad counselor.
