I think I finally realized why my IC won't get better than where I am at now in respect to my pain. I am depressed, anxious, and have anxiety. I have used antidepressants in the past but they did not help. I think I'm going to go to the dr and get back on them. Mental illness runs in my family. I've used prozac, welbutrin, elavil, and cymbalta. Has anyone else used something else to relieve depression and anxiety. I worry a lot. I'm always thinking about stuff. Especially about my IC and other conditions...Its so hard not to.
    Diagnosis: IC '09, vulvodynia '10, fructose intolerance '06, GERD '06, fibromyalgia '09, IBS '10 and TMJ '09, PCOS '11, genital herpes '12

Current Meds: Butrans patch, welbutrin, lamictol, geodon, xanax, aldactone, linzess, topimax, trazadone and diflucan as needed.

Meds tried before: Elmiron, elavil, antibiotics, welbutrin, cymbalta, prozac, nerve blocks, instills, nyastatin, flexerol, percocet, naproxen (which was what I was given for pain for years).

Low dose antidepressants can be a real help with pain. My husband takes only 10 mg for arthritis pain and it definitely helps. If you are suffering from depression, you will need to work with your physician to find which one works best for you.

Sometimes a combination of them will help. I have a friend whos on wellbutrin and lexapro. Hopefully your doctor can help. I think there is a lot of trial and error with them unfortunately. Hope you feel better.

On another topic but how long did you take elmiron for?

antidepressants do help..at least me! I was in a serious, serious depression for a few months & actually had to be hospitilized for it. I was put on elavil which was WONDERFUL...helped with depression, helped with sleep & helped with pain...I stayed on that as long as I could..but it caused me to gain about 60 lbs in about 6 months. I HAD to get off due to the weight. I would totally recommend that drug if you have strong will power & no issues with food ( I have food issues & addiction).
I am now on moodstablizers which help alot & Lexapro also which takes the edge off. I fully beleive that IC can make us depressed...PM me if you want to talk, OK?

I cant take elavil anymore because of the retention and not being able to pee issues I had. I see my urolgist next week so hopefully I can get on some other type of low dose antidepressant to help with pain and also a mood stabilizer.

I took elmiron for a year and a half when I first got diagnosed. I started taking elmiron, elavil and neurotin.

I would definitely talk to your doctor!

I never realized how depressed I was until I started anti-depressants. I'm on 20 mg of Celexa a day and it has helped greatly! I have noticed a big difference in myself as far as my attitude and outlook on life is concerned. I really allowed my husband's illness to get the best of me and I wasn't the supportive, strong wife he needed because of my depression.

Good luck! I hope you start feeling better soon!
