So I went back to my Doctor to see about taking Celexa again? I was on it last fall for 3 months but stopped because I had a lot of difficulty urinating and this is one of the side effects and also because I still felt anxious and depressed. Of course, it is all back again but this time she gave me Remeron to try for 2 weeks. She said that a lot of her patients have had success with it. And if I take it at bedtime it should make me sleep better too. Is anyone taking this med with good results and have you had any weight gain? You all are so helpful with us that are new to IC and have been struggling with it.

I only took Remiron for a very short time (before I was dx'd w/IC). I took it to help me sleep and BOY did it!! I had to make sure I was ready and close to the bed when I took it because in a very few minutes I would be down for the count!!! I hope it helps you.Katie-46 yr old female dx'd with IC after 15 years of symptoms off and on long term antibiotic use, GERD,IBS and now IC diet, gallbladder removed, endometrial ablation w/tubes tied

I have been on Remeron (45 mg) for a little over a month now and I do think it is helping to take the edge off the depression/anxiety (all of which is ic related). I have gained 3 or 4 pounds so far, but probably needed it as I've lost about 15 since my symptoms came on full force in September. My doctor chose it because I seem to get retention with any medication that has that as a potential side effect, and it hasn't caused that for me either. So, I think it's been pretty good so far. Also, if you're concerned about weight gain, ask your doctor about starting at a higher dose; evidently Remeron has a lower side effect profile at higher dosages, so my doctor started me higher.

Thanks Addy & Katie...good stuff to know! Also, one of the side effects its says is constipation...ever since I got IC, I have been struggling with this, even though I drink 8 cups of water, eat veggies & fruit and take a fibre supp (benefibre). I don't know if it is the meds or what...I have just started taking Elmiron and I will try the Remeron tonight. My Dr thinks maybe I am getting to much fibre now and still not enough water?...I can't seem to get it right!Comment
