What I've discovered through trial- and- error thus far on HRT is: take a natural, bio-identical to human estrogen & progesterone. For me that has been Estrace & Prometrium (natural micronized progesterone). Drs. will prescribe that horse's urine (to be blunt) kind of estrogen almost all the time if you don't request this. Now, here's the BIGGIE: I may have flared during the progesterone cycle from the peanut oil that Prometrium is made with. I had it compounded with olive oil instead, and did not flare this round. Now maybe I was just lucky, but since I avoid nuts due to flaring, I took a shot at that it could be the peanut oil. Also, I avoid the 1 mg. Estrace because it has red dye, and take 2 of the .5 white tabs instead. Believe me, noboby but an IC person is going to tell you this stuff! I hope this saves just one person the trouble.

Hi Sue,
Great minds think alike!! I also switched from the Premarin after taking it for 23 years to the Estrace. I asked my doctor for the .5 tablets which as you say are white to avoid the dyes that are used in some of the pills, especially Premarin uses a lot of dyes and other ingredients.
I can't say I noticed a big difference when I switched to the Estrace but if anyone is taking Premarin and having a lot of urinary pain I would recommend talking to your doctor about switching to Estrace. You can get the .5 mg. tablets as Sue said and you can decide on your dosage from there.
