• Birth Control~

Hi everyone !

I have a question about Birth Control. I will be away from my husband for about 6 months. I have one more pill pack...which is for the month of December. I am thinking about not taking anymore after this month since we will not be together. In stopping the Birth Control...are there any problems/complications in doing so ? Will it mess my periods up ? What would I have to expect while being off..and will I be able to continue the Birth Control in about 6 months ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ali, I think you should just stay off them and then have a cute little baby, like we talked about!

Alleycat,

I started taking birth control 4 yrs ago. I stopped taking it for awhile and not that I am a expert or anything but yes it will mess up your period. Did you have regular periods before you started the pill? Women take birth control for many reasons such as to regulate periods, stop cyst formation, lessen painful periods. Eventhough, I had pretty regular periods before I got on the pill once I stopped taking it my periods became irragular. Maybe you should talk to your doctor to make sure that it would not hurt you if you stopped taking it. I love the pill, my periods come on like clock work every month, last about 4 days it is great!

Alleycat,

Also forgot to tell you that if you stop taking the pill that once you get back on it the first month you may have to use another form of birth control cause with some pills it takes about a month to start working again.

Hehe About the baby ....I will have to tell you the story.

Thank you for the info. I didnt have really painful periods or irregular periods before I started the pill. I have been on it for about a year now.The reason I got on it cause I got married. I rather not be on it when I dont have to. Plus being off the hormones...hopefully I will loose some weight ! When you got off the birth control....how did your periods go ? Like how long did they last....did they come all of a sudden w/out any warning...were they really heavy/painful ?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Again I thank you both for posting. Take care and ::::HAPPY HOLIDAYS::::

P.S. Is it safe to get off it for a short period of time w/out the consent of your GYN ? Yes my doc told me the first time to use another source of BC right when I start it. Thank you !

Hi Alleycat~~

I was on orthocyclen for three years for painful crampy periods. It was a great pill- course I gained some weight but I was happy and my periods were not painful and VERY regular, although I had always been very very regular.

I stopped the pill because despite the cramps Id had in the past I wasnt having sex and didnt want to be on hormones anymore. I didnt get my period for 7 months.

I went to the gyn and everything was fine- everything checked out- i just had to wait it out. And then the eight month I got my period. That was a year ago in January. My period was slightly irregular for the two months after, but is like clockwork again. (and my cramps arent as terrible...)

I was diagnosed with IC after going on the pill. I think because of that and the 7 period free months I have a mental block and wont go on it again:rollseyes:. Unless, of course, some sweet sensative man sweeps me and my IC off my feet....then I suppose I'll reconsider.

Yes,if you go off it you will have to use a back up method for a month..and if you period is not regular that first month on the pill I would even say use back up for two.
Good luck!

Ohhh not having a period for 7 months. HEAVEN I wonder if that happens to everyone...if it takes a little while before you have your period after stopping it. ( Im also on Orthotricyclen) I was to dx with IC after starting the pill...and I did gain weight due to my Elmiron and BC. So not being on them both..hopefully my body can get back to normal. Thank you for the info. I hope the man of your dreams will come and sweep you off your feet. Thanks again !

Alleycat-
Not everyone takes 7 months, but usually it takes people a few months to get back to normal. The doc will tell you I think average is three months without a cycle.

Good luck!! I had trouble losing the weight after the BC....I did weight watchers and lost 17 pounds in one summer and kept (MOST of) it off!!!

Hey dude!

Another neat form of bc is the depo-provera injection. Only 4x a year and you don't have to remember those stinkin pills! I did have messed up periods after getting off the shot and pills-it was worse with the shot. I had my period for 6 weeks straight! You know, it's different for everyone.

AlleyCat,

When I stopped taking the pill I did not have painful periods just irregular. I have never really had pain periods. But everybody's body is different. If you want to stop taking the pill, I would talk to your dr maybe there is something else you can use. Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

I've been thinking about stoping birth control. I don't have insurance and I really can't afford. I went on the pill shortly before I got married and I have been on it since then. The only reason I went on it was because I don't want kids. Before I went on the pill my periods were normal. I believe the pill made my IC worse then it was before I started it. I was on it for a few years before my IC worsened. Does anyone know if coming off the pill helps with IC symptoms? What are the risk factors of getting your tubes tied? I thought about getting my tubes tied someday so I won't have to take the pill anymore.

Well, I have stopped taking my pill as we are trying to get pregnant again. I have been off it almost a month and a half, and I have just had the period from hell! I bled more and longer, hadreally bad cramps, it was awful,BUT I was one that had to take the bcp to regulate my cycle, or else I would bleed for weeks at a time. The shot also made me bleed for 6 weeks. I cant win! LOL
