  • Gyn suggested this for HRT and I'm concerned it will cause flares

Since I stopped having periods 4 months ago the hot flashes were slightly controlled with 80 mg Black Cohosh-till the past two wks.-When I have the hot flashes then my bladder spasms or just feels worse. My gyno gave me a sample of a Combipatch with 0.05 estradiol and 0.25 norethindrone. I'm afraid this will cause my IC to be worse bec. of the progesterone-my IC was always worse before my periods. I have a call into her office to ask about Bio-identical HRT. Her nurse said that you have to have a compounding pharmacy but I live in a small town in Va and no one does that type of thing. Someone mentioned a pharmacist who would do the compounding and then mail it to you. Does he still do that?

Sammi -if you are out there I appreciate your replies. I hope you are doing better since they took your uterus out.

    Thanks,
    Susan

My IC is much better on birth control pills (estrogen & progesterone) than not. Maybe it will actually help?

I got IC when I quit my bc pills, my mom got IC a year later when she quit her estrogen.

Apparently some of us get better with hormone use, others get worse & the only way to tell is to try it.

Hoping it works out well for you~

      To Susan

The Estradiol in your BC bill is natural bio identical estrogen. A non bio identical estrogen would say something like Esterified estrogen or Ethinyl estradiol.
Although the progestin is not bio identical, you may be just fine with it. Norethindrone is from the 10-Nor testosterone family and produces slightly androgenic effects in the body. This means you may experience energy, more of a sex drive and have less breast tenderness, bloating. weight gain and depression. I did much, much better on testosterone family progestins than I did on Prometrium which an bio identical progesterone. In fact most of my vulvar symptoms just went nuts with progesterone which is bio identical.
The reason I had the levonorgestrel medicated IUD put in was because I just couldnt stand progesterone.
Also just a side note; bio identical does not mean compounded cream. It also does not mean it pops out of a soy plant and you use it. These natural products are used as a chemical base to re arrange molecules that have the same chemical structure as what your body produces. All of them are products of the lab.
I am presently using bio identical pellets, but they can be bio identical in patches, oral pills, creams and so on.
The only problem with a combo patch, or combo anything is that you cant adjust one part of the dose, if its too high or too low.
