  • Anti-Estrogen Therapy and Aromatase Inhibitors

I have a question regarding anti-estrogen therapy and aromatase inhibitors. I am currently taking Elmiron, Amitriptyline, Flomax, Celebrex, Ditropan and Vicoden for pain prn. I had a hydrodistension with urethral dialation last month. I was diagnosed with IC 1 1/2 years ago and have really noticed a pattern to my flares. I have horrible flares during ovulation and during my menstrual cycle (although I don't have periods because I had a uterine ablation 4 years ago). The doctor that I work for has recommended anti-estrogen or aromatase inhibitors. Does anyone know about this? I am about ready to have a hysterectomy due to the pain during my cycle. I seem to be very fortunate that I take only Vicoden for pain once or twice a month. But I am truly tired of the pain and cycle. Any help out there?
    Thanks,

I see you live in Arizona, I do also, and there are a lot of good IC doctors around here that you could consult. Dr. Elizabeth Kornfield, and Dr. Hurm for a couple.
You might also contact Dr. Bert Webb in Scottsdale regarding your IC, and gynecology issues. That office does instills and is very aware of IC and its challenges. Dr. Webb is a gynecologist, and could advise you on the wisdom of an estrogen blocker.
My question for you is why did your doctor think of an estrogen blocker? Does he suspect Endometriosis? If your gyne history is more or less normal, then I would wonder why he would suggest this?
Usually IC symptoms that are cyclic are the result of estrogen dropping off and progesterone becoming dominant, not the reverse.
