  • Please help Yasmin?bc pill advice needed!

Hello. I'veread everything I can here. My gyno putme on Yasmin again. Was on Yaz before and was on Mircette last month. Mircette hurt my bladder and this yasmin is making me pee like crazy with awful night sweats. He said hormones andthe pill don't cause night sweats, only anxiety. Andthat the pill doesn't thicken bladder lining, only the uterus. He's wrong, but a good dr. and in my small town, no one else to see, I've exhausted them all, can't travel. I am onthe pill for 25 yeaars of awful acne and mittleshmertz and to prevent pcod. Yasmin makes anxiety worse and insomnia. The mircertte made me dangerously depressed. I'm afraid it's the progesterone. I'm gooing insane from not finding the right pill. Ques: What pill can I take that will not tend to depress horribly and will help acne and this IC?? Advice welcome, this disease is ravaaginng my body and nobody here can help much . I''ve met only one human with this illness, she had bladder cut out. Thank you for reading. Jennifer
Ps. the only thing good re mircette was I am flatchested and it grew me boobs. The yaz stuff cuts libido down to nothing.

My first impulse would be to suggest you get a second Doc's opinion, but since you say you do not have access to much, based on where you live, I guess such a suggestion would not work for you. I suppose you dont live driving distance from another place that may have a Doc?
It sounds like you have a few issues to consider with BC pills? There are hundreds of BC pills on market, all different combos of things. I can tell you that a lot of ICers have had very good luck with Ovcon 35, which has one of the lowest levels of progestin, next in lower progestin is Modicon and Brevicon. You also mention PCOS which also must be considered, so perhaps if I were you, I would drive a bit and consult another doctor.
Sorry you are having such a rough time with this, and lets hope you find a better Doc.

My IC was horrible when I quit the birth control pill. When I started up on a pill again, I tried Mircette. Still very bad. Yasmin was better, but not by much. Removed the stabbing, twisting bladder pain in my lower abdomen, but left burning & frequency. My doctor & I talked about it & I went back on Necon 1/35 (very similar to Ovcon 35). The first day on it, I had a horrid flare & migraine, but within several days I felt much better & the constant urethral burning was gone.

I don't know how far you are from other medical care, but if your care is good you don't need to go to the doctor so often & maybe it would be worth checking out. I've known women who actually fly in to see my IC specialist several times a year. That's pretty extreme, but maybe there's something less drastic available for you?

      Hang in there,
      Kadi

        Diuretic

Yaz and Yasmin contain Drsp which is a diuretic. I'm getting off of it because I believe it causes my flare ups.

Altough I have had IC symptoms in the past my main issue is urinary retention - I am DESPERATE for an answer. I have to self-cath every time I go to the bathroom and have been since 2000. I feel helpless. Any advice would be appreciated.

        --------------------------------
Interstim Trial on 12/21/07 - Didn't work so no InterStim for me

        Tried:

Worked - Ditropan 15mg (and helps you sleep!) Off it now though

Didn't Work - Vesicare, Enablex, Detrol

Macrobid 50mg/day for to ward off infections
Self-Cath (can't go on my own!) for retention
Birth Control - Nothing- Quit Yasmin (It's a Diuretic!)

          Thank you for any advice

Thank you so very much for replying! I cannot drive out of town and have no money to fly. My uro does not see me and has me see his nurse assistant, who treats IC. I seem to know more than her though. She said people take elmiron after it has helped when they have a flare, not every day. They refuse to give narcotics. The first uro stuck a glass tube up my urethra 4 times in a row (assumed my urethethra was narrow wi no exam)without giving me the ooption to think about it first, I felt like I had been raped. no lidocane even, left me bleeding . I'm serious about this. Found out he's hurt lots of women. Prefers boys and men. The experience with 7 urologists have been so bad I don't want to see one ever again but know I have to in the future. the first 2 uro's were brutal. My sister took me to Jackson, MS to see the one dr. in state who treats IC also, and he discussed cutting out my bladder, even though he first said I had IC then 2 hoours later said I didn't have it. He's famous here though. I'ver asked over a hundred women here if they have it and 99 percent have never even heard of it. Sorry for ramblilng. I guess I will ask about the ortho tricyclen lo an ovcon 35. The orthotricyclen stopped working for my acne 10 years ago. This nag glicosamine, glutamine, in the supplement I take have definitely helped my body make more mucous! Great since ACCUTANE destroyed my eye, intestinal, and vaginal mucosa. Thank you all very much, Jennifer

              LoEstrin

Yes, it is lower ethinyl estradiol and higher Levnorgestrel. Usually BC pills that are higher in estrogen and lower in progestin work best for bladder. An example would be Ovcon 35 which is one of higher dose estrogen to progestin.

I've taken Yasmin, Ortho Tricyclen Lo, Depo Provera, Ovocon, Junel, the ring, and many other birth controls (each for at least 6mo.)..... I've done horrible on ALL of them. Well, when I went to see my GYN last week, she said that because I'm on so many other medications, that my liver is probably not metabolizing the bc the way it should. So, she's putting me on the patch, which I haven't started yet... but apparently, it gets metabolized through the skin instead of the liver so I should be getting the full dose of medication. Anyways, that's just my two cents. I haven't started it yet to give you my opinion but to me that does make a lot of sense!
                current meds:
                cytotec 200mcg twice daily
                toprol
                allegra

ONLY 3 MEDICATIONS!!! YAY! Would never have dreamed this is possible

                dx: endometriosis 2003
                dx: innapropriate sinus tacchicardia 2005

                meds tried but failed:
                elavil (6months)- severe tachycardia
elmiron (1yr6mo.)- no improvement, nausea, hair loss, stomach ulcers
                a bunch of others

                  Patch

Good luck with your patch. You might also consider the Mirena IUD. I used it for a year and loved it. It delivers a tiny dose of progestin directly into the uterine lining. I used it for HRT along with estradiol, but it was originally a birth control device. It also will stop your periods after 4-6 months and is used for women with heavy bleeding, fibroids or other bleeding problems.
Back twenty years ago when IUD first came out I could use it as it made me bleed too hard, but this one is medicated with progestin and stops the lining from building up. Once inserted it can last 5 years or until you remove it.
I had my progesterone levels tested four times while I was on the Mirena and the progesterone in my serum level was almost undetectable, so it does not go systemic.
Progesterone and Progestins just made my bladder, and vulvar area nuts, so this was a great alternative for me.

                      update

Saw Dr. today. He said he had had patients get very depressed on Mircette. Some patients, not all. Is from the type of progesterone. He prescribed the Ovcon for me to try. I told him my night perspiring was so bad I bought a Nitesweatz gown- he laughed. Thinks the Ovcon may be a good idea. I'll give it a try. Is not antiandrogenic but may not make my acne awful. Can't waid to try the gown, material in store felt fantastic.

                        Progestins

Your Doc has that right; progestins make one depressed, bloated, more sensitive to pain, moody. PMS on a pill.

I think I have been taking Yasmin since before I was dx with IC in 6/04. The gyno said Yasmin hasn't been out that long. Anyway, I started getting bladder pain 11/03. I am constantly peeing and wonder if maybe it is because of the Yasmin. Can a woman still get swollen breast while on BC?

Also, my breast started getting a fullness to them this past month or so. I don't know if it is because of the nortriptyline or because I gained about 2-3 pounds? I hate this fullness since I am normally a 34B. I need to go out a buy more bras and go up a cup. I had started Vesicare in May but stopped it because I was too constipated.

My IC responded very well to birth control. I once tried Yasmin and it caused me great pain.

                              Sharon,

What bc are you on? Yasmin has a diuretic in it which is why I haven't gained any weight on it. I was thinking about stopping it to see if my IC pain would go away even though I was taking Yasmin before any IC symptoms. My biggest concern is not to gain weight besides wanting to get rid of my burning.
