  • Ortho-Novum 1/50-28 NOT HELPING

I'm at my wits end. 6 months ago I was given Ortho-Novum 1/50 for painful, long periods in an attempt to shorten them and make them more liveable (I had failed on Seasonale, Yasmin, Ortho Tricyclin-Lo and the BC patch). So far no change. I just got my period out of the blue, in the middle of a pack. I went to bed at 2am, woke up at 6 45 and my PJs, blanket and sleeping bag were soaked to teh carpet with blood.

(sorry took a 4 hour nap)

Anyway, the cramps weren't bad at first so I took a Tylonol2 w/ Codine to head off pain like I was told. Thought it would be fine and dandy. At 9 I woke up screaming, swearing that I was about to give birth to the goat-boy or something. The cramps were very unlike anything I have felt. All my pelvic muscles had this hard to control urge to "push". So I cried for 2 hours (which brings us to now).

Took another Tylonol2 w/Codine. That **** BETTER WORK. I found that sitting on the potty helps with the cramps. I have NO idea why. But hey, I'll do anything at this point. And oddly enough my IC is completely fine.

Thanks for letting me rant. I'm just so tired of having problems with my period.

Oh Gabby that sounds just horrible. I'm so sorry that you're having such a horrible time. I can't imagine waking up to all that blood, that probably would have scared the crap out of me. I hope your second Tylonol2 helps.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

I really hope something helps soon. The T2 kicked in a bit btter with the 2nd dose. My gyno wants to try the Depro-provera shot if the Ortho-Novum doesnt work. Which it obviously doesn't.

That really stinks. I am on continous bc, but it's just my regular bc that I've bene taking for years and now I skip the fake pills and start another pack right away.
I've never had heavy periods but it makes my bladder flare so much I want to die so I try to avoid getting my period as much as possible.

I read in you signature you have Endo. My gyn is sort of going through a list of what could be wrong and testing me for it. I think if I don't respond to the Depro-provera shot that's what she will look at next. What are the main symptoms that go with that?

They are very similar to IC. I had a lot of pelvic pain, pain before my period, painful sex, painful urination during my period. The only way go know for sure is to have a lap done usually to go in there and see if it's there, it doesn't usually show up in an ultra sound unless it has grown through something like it did with my bladder

Well after like 4 days it hasnt let up. Went through 2 boxes or regular tampoms (each had like 18 or 20 in it) in 4 days. And now I'm getting kinda tired and dizzy, which I think if from my period being so heavy (not the tampons or anything). So I called my gyn and she is going to call me back when she has a chance (but it will be today).

Btw, this is a sort of off question but does anyone know if this statement is true: If you put in a tampon and your period is REALLY heavy it's okay to go in a pool because the water "stops" it.

My friend keeps telling me this. And I'm not sure how tre it is. I mean coulldnt the blood dissipate and SEEM like it stopped?

                Merry

Sounds like your Doc may be on the right track with suspecting Endometriosis? I had it once and it is very painful, with hard bleeding.
Have you had an ultrasound or even in office scope? Heavy, painful bleeding can be caused by other things than Endo.
Hope you get this tracked down soon.

Gabby, I don't know about the swimming. If my period was that heavy I either wouldn't go swimming at all or I wouldn't do it w/o a super absorbent tampon.
