I started zovia 1/50 a month ago and I was flaring really badly for a few days then it went away. I think it was due more so to the BV that I had. Im actually feeling a lil better while on birth control. I havent the PMS flare that I usually have. Some hormones can negatively affect an IC bladder. Is the birth control ur using progesterone or estrogen dominant? You might need to switch. Talk to your doctor.
Diagnosed with IC October 2009- through bladder biopsy (no glomerations or hunners ulcers found, just irritation)

    I have moderate-severe IC

Currently stopped taking all medications due to pregnancy

I do ok if I take 2 femdophilus a day. If u find a probiotic with the strains reuteri and rhamnosous, those strains are best for vaginal health. The other ones target the digestive system. Unfortunately, if I dont take probiotics BV comes back right away. Any probiotics with those strains need to be refrigerated or they will loose thier effectivness. Good Luck

            yep

Yeah, that's actually how mine flared up to be diagnosed, or that's what I'm thinking. I was on progesterone only because I don't tolerate estrogen. It makes me worried that I'll have a really hard time if I manage to get pregnant since pregnancy increases progesterone and estrogen big time...

Oh, and once I stopped the progesterone (had been on it for 4 months), it went down a little tiny bit, but not much.

              I Agree!

              Hi,
I agree with needsrelief the reuteri and rhamnosis are key. I take a different brand (primadophilus reuteri) but the same probiotics. Most days I take one but if I feel "funny" I take 2 one in morning, one at night and it goes away! Its awesome. I swear by it.

I began to flare using oral estrogen, tried the patches but had topical reactions to them. I'm now on Evamist which is sprayed on and seems to do fine. It is expensive though.

                      New to IC!!!

Hi I've only developed IC symptoms since march of 2012. I'm 48 and in April it hit me like a truck. The pressure, the pain and the many trips to the toilet. I don;t suffer urgency but frequency. I live in the UK and over Easter it was a nightmare trying to get anyone to take me seriously. They told me it was a UTI etc. Had a ultrasound scan of my bladder, uterus and ovaries and they only found 2x1cm fibroids. Urologist that I see for a cyst on my left kidney told me to take antibiotics for 6 months and that it was not IC and the pain was caused by nitrites in my urine culture????? The antibiotics gave me extreme pain and i went back to GP. He examined me and agreed with me that it might be IC, He put me on Cimetidine for a week to see if I would have relief, I did but it constipated me so stopped. I also had a cystoscopy in july 2011 and they found sqamous displasia on my trigone so he suggested I try Vagifem for a month. I did but it burnt a little when I used it and did not get much relief. He is now refering me to a Gyno-urologist and he suggested I take Ovestin 0.1 mg 2x a week. I have been resding all these forum and I do find it difficult to see what to try next, I have changed my diet and I am rying quercitine, prelief, and mashmellow root . Keeping my fingers cross!!! Thanks for all you suggestions it really help when you feel very lonely on this IC Planet.

YES I have been off BC for a year. It flares my IC so bad that it is just not worth it for me to take. I was on it for 10 years prior to IC, but I was never able to continue it after.

Hormones do tend to affect IC, and I think that it is a fairly common thing for us to have problems with hormonal BC unfortunatley

                        28 yrs old,

I have little to no problems now with my bladder, unless I am very stressed out, I forget to take Elmiron for a few days, or I eat or drink something that I know is a trigger...(i.e) like eating a tomato or drinking tea.... Took a long time to get here, but it IS possible to feel good again I just want people who are new to know that IT CAN get better, and for every one person who is suffering, there are hundreds of others who feel GREAT because they have control of thier IC.

What Works: Tylenol 3's, Pyridium, Elmiron (Going on 4 years now!) HOT showers!!!

Medications/ Vitamins: Elmiron-100mg 4x's daily Tylenol 3's/Advil (flaring) Vitamin D, WILD salmon oil 4x gels in the morning, Women's ONE a DAY multivitamin (the gummy kind doesn't make me flare) and PROBIOTICS!

                          ovestin !!!

Thanks Jen, It is funny you say that because i was told that my IC was due to drop in estrogen level and this why i have tried vagifem and ovestin, but unfortunetly ovestin is not working either it is giving me period like pain and spotting. I'm moving back to Canada at the end of the summer and will have no heslth care for three month so i feel i need to find something that will keep me from going nut during flare up. I'm having reflexology this week and looking into acupunture. Because of my age I also feel that trying to see a pattern to this illness is mad even more difficult.

                          Ginette xx
