Started vaginal estrogen

I started vaginal estrogen cream last night one gram, I inserted it and them about 10 mins later I was burning inside big time, the burning lasted about a 1/2 hour, so I guess something in this cream bothered my skin inside.

I talked to my Dr. today he said wait a few days for the irritated skin to heal up and try the vaginal pills he gave me to try.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

I love Estrace but I know others have had a problem.

If you go to the first ICN page on this site - the one with the girl sitting down with her scarf blowing in the wind and go up to the search box and insert the words Estrace and burning - specify to search in the ICN only circle I think you will see that others have had that problem.

My Uro has me using Premarin vaginal cream 42.5 GM twice a week. It don't seem to agitate me at all. I also take the primarin pill once a day I am going through the change, so it helps alot. Maybe your Uro can recommend a different hormonal cream.

I have been using Premarin Vaginal cream for almost 3 years and it has been a Godsend to me. The dryness of my Vagina and Urethra has disappeared and so has most of the spasms of my Urethra.If the problem continues,try a different brand.It may be preservativs that burn you.Good luck.

I have been using Estrace cream for 3 years now. At first it did burn, but after a few weeks the burning totally abated. Premarin is derived from pregnant horse urine. I won't use it due to the cruel aspects of what the horses are put through to obtain their urine.

I need to talk to my Dr. again on Monday, I am now in the worst flare I have had in a long time, my VV has flared up, my skin is raw and read from pillar to post.

My VV has been so well undercontrol for over a year now, I am not liking this at all.

I know I am wining but I have been feeling pretty good and wham this has hit me like a tone of bricks, and too boot we have comapny that I thought were staying the night and now say they are staying till tues, so I can't even just curl up in bed and feel sorry for myself.

Last week I also invited the whole extended family over for Brunch today, luckly I made it a pot luck so everyone is bringing something, and my husband will do the cooking for our part. Also everyone is pretty good about kicking in and cleaning up everything. So it won't be too bad, but I would rather stay in bed.

I'm so sorry you flared from the Estrace, and right when you're having all that company too.
I use Estrace cream. It did make me sore when I started, though not as sore as it made you, but after a while the soreness went away.
I believe some of the women here use specially compounded estrogen cream that has nothing in it that could hurt the vagina or the bladder. Try looking through the forum topics and see if you can get some more info.
In the meantime, feel better, and, if you feel really crummy, go curl up in your bed and let your company take care of themselves for a while.

I've never been able to use the commercial estrace or estrogen creams- they have always burned and irritated my skin. I narrowed it down to the propylene glycol that they put in most of the creams. I tried vagifem tablets and they did the same thing, and they also have propylene glycol in them. I finally ordered a compounded estriol cream from Dakota Pharmacy that is hypo allergenic and glycol free. If you don't have any luck finding one you can use you can always contact Kevin at the Dakota Pharmacy in North Dakota. He will work with you and your dr. to come up with something. This pharmacy has been mentioned here on our website on previous post with really good recommendations.

Thank you for the info on the compounding pharmacy, but I would have to order that when I am at my US home and have a us script, right now I am in Canada and the US pharmacies tell me they can not fill Canadian scripts, go figure.

Anyways today is the first this flare has started to subside any at all, so I am quit sure I am going to live, my VV is still in full flare though so, when and if I try the vagifem tablets, it will be a while before i do it and after a deep discussions with my Dr. again about them.

I do know he did not expect me to react this badly to the estrace cream, it is kind of odd as he says he knows i would not do well with oral hormones which I for sure don't want, but felt this being a much lower dose etc. I have been in contact with him everyday as we have tweaked meds to help with this flare, I think he might be leaning to wards it maybe the hormone it's self too, not just the additives.

I'm surprised they won't fill Canadian scripts. We order from Canada all the time- You'd think it would work the other way too- guess not.

Maybe it was the pharmacies I asked at, maybe if it had been an on line one it would be different.

I also asked to buy 1 1/2" 25 gage needles, and syringes, the look I got was you must be a druggie, and want to buy needles.

I am on a medication, that has to be injected once a week, at the time my husband was too and my son was on it once a day, well she gave me the third degree what did I want them for, and why had I not brought enough with me, when I said I didn't know how long I was staying it got worse, or that I may head to Europe before going to Canada again.

She ended up not selling them to me, I won't make that mistake again, I went back later another pharmacist was much more helpful.

Maybe you could get a letter from your doctor verifying why you may need the syringes so that you could present it to the pharmacy-?? My uro years ago volunteered to supply me with a notarized letter from him explaining my medical condition at the time. It was really helpful.

I had a letter she just didn't believe me, next time I will just go with lots and make sure I have a good supply at my other house.

Also now my husband and I are each just using this med once a week so we don't need any where near as many needles.

It is just so funny when you go somewhere and people ask you how long you are staying and you reply I don't know I haven't bought a return ticket yet.

Most people plan out everything they do, we do not, we for the most part just wing it.

Also with all of my medical problems I want to be able to come back to Canada when ever I feel I want or need too.

But i also want to be able to jump on a cruise ship and do a transatlantic crossing if the opportunity arises, you just never know, and it is hard to plan for all scenario's, especially when you add in an unpredictable illness.

But that's way we chose to live out lives, for now MG

Yes it certainly is unpredictable. I applaud you for even thinking about a transatlantic cruise. Sounds like you don't let this condition hold you back. Good for you.
