  • Uterine ablation?

Has anybody had ablation done for heavy periods? Did it cause your IC to flare?

  • #2
Anyone? I had a hysterectomy before IC --- I hope you'll get some responses.

I had an Endometrial ablation 6-7 years ago (perimenopausal at the time) because of heavy bleeding. It stopped my bleeding completely. I did not notice any flares with my IC at the time (I had/have been in remission for years (I was diagnosed 35 years ago)). Frequent urination is my biggest culprit right now and for many years (avg. 23 times in 24 period). However, for the past year to year and a half I have had what I think were/are flares but have been diagnosed with UTI/bladder infections with E-coli being the culprit with the colony forming units being 50,000 - 100,000 units per ml. It has been suggested (by functional medicine practitioner) that this may not be enough bacteria for me to have been put on an antibiotic that might do more harm than good.

I recently had Urodynamics, pelvic us and cysto tests performed by UROGYN. After the Urodynamics test & pelvic us I became very irritated and told my Dr that the tests had caused a flare. He went ahead and did the cysto test (5 days later) which I was convinced made the flare worse. I received a call from his office a week later saying that my urine culture showed a bladder infection so I was prescribed another round of antibiotics.

The urogyn did tell me that I have bladder prolapse. We are now in the stage of trying to determine which is the best route for me to take for the prolapse.

I don't know if any of this is related because of how long ago I had the ablation done but hope this helps.

No I didn’t. I ended up with a D and C. Long story short... but I’ve been in a flare since the D and C in November due to a med they gave me for heavy bleeding. It caused pelvic floor dysfunction... I’m still in Therapy. It’s been long and painful recovery. I’m praying for remission .

I'm so sorry. This has become a lengthy process for you --- I hope you're better soon.
