  • Vaginal Atrophy - Intravaginal medication and flares

I am 2 years post menopausal and am just discovering that I will need estrogen intravaginal cream taken 2 to 3 times per week for vaginal atrophy.

My question is, is anyone else traveling down this road here on this forum, and if so, has the intravaginal estrogen cream created any IC flares?

I haven't started the cream yet, and am a bit afraid to try it.

    Thanks,
    Tink

This forum seems to have changed a lot with hardly anyone responding to people’s posts.
I am not on here as often as I used to be either but I’ll try to help you with my thoughts.
I was having issues with the vaginal estrogen burning my tissue and was also afraid it would stir up my mast cell affected bladder.
It did not make my bladder flare and in fact in helped my urethral redness and burning a lot. It does still burn me upon initial few minutes but it subsides and is tolerable.

I’m so glad to hear that! Best thing I ever did for my bladder and urethra.

Hi Tink22. I'm post menopausal and recently tried Premarin cream for 4 to 5 months and it did not cause any problems with my IC. I stopped the Premarin because I wasn't really getting the results I was hoping for and I had some spotting. So now I'm going to a gynecologist to see what's next. I'm pretty scared about it as I can't even tolerate an exam at this point. But my bladder is doing ok so far. Let us know how you do with some treatment for your issues. And I'll try to keep you posted as well.

When you see the gyn, be sure to let him/her know how sensitive your tissues are.

                        Good luck!
