After colonscopy & endoscopy I couldn't smoke yesterday. So I continued not smoking today, going to do one day at a time (one hour at a time, if need be). Hubby HAS got to quit, so I'm hoping this will encourage him. Both tests came back good (2 small polyps removed). Kathi toilet hat

Go Kathi...Go Kathi...Go Kathi
Both my husband and I quit in May 1991. I know how hard it is. Take one hour at a time and one day at a time. It does get easier each day you do not light up.
I hope you make it...SharonSharon

When I quit in '90 I prayed for a lot of help AND I told myself each day that if I still wanted a cigarette the next morning that I could absolutely have one. By the next morning I always had my resolve back. winkKim
Diagnosed August 2001
Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)
Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)
I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.

Congratulations! When I quit I told myself that if I could make it four days, I could definitely do it! That was almost twenty years ago and I don't even think about smoking until I smell somebody else's smoke and it totally stinks!
You'll make it. For a little while your body will literally scream for nicotine, but once you get past that initial period, you'll be soooo happy.
Sending an encouraging hug,

kathi,
Congrats! I am on my 4th day without smoking. I noticed if I keep myself busy I do not think about it. I just have 1 problem...I have an hour commute from work to home...that is the hardest but have convinced myself it is for my health...I don't need to smoke. Wish you all the luck in the world!

You go girls...
I am so proud of you both. 1 week is a major accomplishment. What it means is you have kicked the physical habit in the behind. What's left are the emotional and mental habits. That is where quitting with someone else comes in mighty handy. You both need to keep in contact with each other so you can help each other over the rough spots.
One of the best things my husband and I did while going through the process of quitting was staying away from other people who smoked. I would recommend you both do that. I don't know if you have any friends who still smoke. If you do, ask them not to smoke around you. Especially inside your car and house.
Kathi...I think you said your husband smokes. If he does not want to stop along with you, then ask him not to smoke in the house and car. With Spring and Summer coming on, that should not be such a hardship for him. It would give him an excuse to get outside and enjoy the warm weather. It might even give him the incentive to quit himself.
Gabrielle...while driving to work, listen to some easy listening music on the radio and when the "I gotta have one" crave hits...breathe. Take in some deep breaths and let them out slowly, as if you are blowing smoke out. I did that for as long as the cravings continued to hit. Kathi... that is for you, also.
Remember...you have both kicked the physical habit. You just have to break the emotional and mental parts of the habit. Do what ever it takes to do that. Allow yourselves the right to make yourselves number one in your lives. What you both are doing is such a major thing and you have the right to believe in yourselves and be proud.
I hope I have not meddled too much. I am just so proud of you for doing this. I can hardly contain my glee.
You both rock...big time.Sharon

SharonA,
You rock too! Thank you for your praise and advise. For me it has been 5 days now and as long as I stay busy I don't have cravings! And yes, my first day without smoking I got into my car and popped in a meditation/nature music cd and it worked. My boyfriend quit in January so the only thing I have to worry about is when we go out with friends like to bars. Once again, SharonA, thanx for your support!!! Makes me feel all warm inside....and my bladder is not full...heheee...joke :p But really thanx I send you a big kissing

One of the worst things I faced when I quit was second hand smoke. There was enough nicotine there that it kept feeding my addiction. If you can stay away from smoking for just a few weeks it does get easier.
And I promise you that you won't be sorry.
Congratulations on making it this long!
Hugs,
DonnaStay safe
