Congratulations! You have made a decision that will help you for the rest of your life. I quit smoking back when Nicorette gum was the only thing available and when it was a prescription item. It wasn't easy, but the rewards are great.

It's best if you can stay totally away from anywhere there are people smoking --- you can inhale enough nicotine to make it extremely difficult to get it out of your system so you can begin to heal. And be aware that nicotine is one of the most addictive substances we know of.

When I quit, I didn't tell anyone until I had made it through four days. I set four days as my "winning goal" --- if I could make it that long, I could make it for the rest of my life.

    Warm encouraging hugs,
    Donna

CONGRATS KEEP AT IT!!!! I stopped about six weeks ago using zyban and it is tough. I have gone through so much sugar free candy and trying to keep busy that is about all I have done since stopping. I got a u.t.i and I got down and of course wanted a cig but did control myself. God Bless

When I quit smoking I found it helpful to change my habits surrounding smoking as much as possible. I had a routine down where my mind automatically knew when to put that cigarette in my mouth and light it. So instead of sitting in the kitchen with a cup of coffee, a good book, and a cigarette, I'd sit in the living room with the coffee, book, and lowfat snacks. I tricked my mind into trying to forget the cigarettes by altering the routine.

I also found that finding hobbies, like cross-stitch and knitting, to keep my hands occupied helped. It's harder to smoke when your hands aren't empty.

The most important thing to remember is that if you slipped once or twice, you don't have to throw in the towel. A few days after I decided to quit, I bought a pack of cigarettes and started to have one. It tasted awful and made me feel sick to my stomach and reinforced why I really should quit.

Best of luck. You can do it!

Zyban is a medication prescribed by your doctor that helps quit smoking and also used for depression. I have insurance so a thirty day script I pay ten dollars for. I have been on this before and I sank as I never really gave it my best shot. This time I am giving it all I got and I hope I can continue being a non smoker. I have tried everything on the market and when I say everything I do mean everything. This prescription when I stopped smoking I did not have those nasty physical withdrawls. Whatever choice you make is a good one as smoking is not helping our bodies at all. God Bless

I have never smoked, so I cannot help you in the quitting area.

I just wanted to tell you that it is something that in the end will be worth it--- you are giving yourself and your familythe best gift ever.

My mom and dad tried to quit when I was an infant, I have have heard the stories trying. At one time they were hyponitized, and on the way home my dad threw his cigarettes out the window and my mom lit up. She was not phased. Later, she went to another class on trying to quit. During the class their was aa video about a mother who was dying of lung cancer and had a baby girl the same age as me. She has not quit in the seventeen years since. In the past three years I have dealt with two chronic illnesses and she has been my angel--- she quit for me and my brothers, and I will forever be thankful.

I am in no way saying this is something easy, because I know it isn't. I just wanted to give you a little hope.
