It's been a long time. I quit over twenty years ago --- but it did make my bladder feel less irritated. Also, in addition to smoking causing heart disease and lung cancer, it's also been proved to be a major cause of bladder cancers.

You are wise to be planning to quit. I know it's not easy --- I don't think I could have done it without nicotine gum --- but I've never regretted quitting for even a minute.

    Sending encouraging hugs,
    Donna

I just quit smoking 3 months ago, but my IC has been in remission for over a year and a half. So in my case it doesn't seem to have made any difference in my symptoms. However, there are many other obvious and well-known benefits!

As you're gearing up to quit take a look at this website: www.whyquit.com

Lots of great stuff there to support you as you get ready to quit, during your first weeks off, and after. I still visit for guidance and give a lot of credit to that site for my sustaining this quit!

      Good luck!

That is good news, I cannot wait to be a non-smoker! I know it is so bad for me, however it has been so difficult to quit. I have tried countless times, I hope it sticks this time!

When I quit, I made the decision that if I could go without smoking for four days, I could quit for the rest of my life. Those four days were awful, but it just reinforced my decision --- I didn't want to repeat those four days.

          You can do it!

          Warm hugs,

It definitely does get easier. I don't even want to smoke and haven't wanted to for many years. Linda, I know it's not easy to quit when you're around others who smoke. When I quit (over twenty years ago) my husband put away his pipe and I stayed away from smoking areas for a long time. Now I can't stand the smell of tobacco smoke.

I just stopped smoking! It has been a WEEK and I am DYING hahah I want one soo bad, but it just seems so pointless for me when I am trying to make my body so healthy and still smoking!...Have not noticed too much with the bladder other than I have good and bad days, but maby it will make a difference in the long run?
                          28 yrs old,

I have little to no problems now with my bladder, unless I am very stressed out, I forget to take Elmiron for a few days, or I eat or drink something that I know is a trigger...(i.e) like eating a tomato or drinking tea.... Took a long time to get here, but it IS possible to feel good again I just want people who are new to know that IT CAN get better, and for every one person who is suffering, there are hundreds of others who feel GREAT because they have control of thier IC.

What Works: Tylenol 3's, Pyridium, Elmiron (Going on 4 years now!) HOT showers!!!

Medications/ Vitamins: Elmiron-100mg 4x's daily Tylenol 3's/Advil (flaring) Vitamin D, WILD salmon oil 4x gels in the morning, Women's ONE a DAY multivitamin (the gummy kind doesn't make me flare) and PROBIOTICS!

                          Me in my graduation gown!

To all of you who are in the process of doing something that is so important, I say well done and stay with it. It is one of the best things you can do for yourself and those around you who do not smoke.

No...It is not easy to do, but ,Yes, it does get easier day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year. Hubby and I both stopped the last week of May 1991. This year is our 20 year non smoker anniversary. I have to say that I find it hard to think back to those years I smoked. It seems like it was someone else who did that to her body. I can not imagine any reason why I would ever smoke again. And, I am also someone who cannot stand the smell of cigarettes smoke now.

Stay with it...You can do it...It is possible...!!!!!

Shamay, if you make your mind to quit smoking then you definitely quit it. When you need smoking try another thing like mint toffee etc. It will definitely help you.
