you also might want to pick up a book on ic and have your family read it. because you should never feel guilty they need to be more understanding

Thanks, I'll try that in the future.I finally just said I couldn't make it this time. I've tried the cushion your referring too. It did help with the bladder symptoms I get while in the car, the only problem is it makes my back hurt. So much so, that I can't sit on it for long periods of time. So, I'm still trying to find a cushion that will work for me. Ironically, the cushion that helps my bladder hurts my back.

You might want to invite them to your home next time.
The IC pillow from the ICN Shop is a lifesaver for me for riding in the car. It keeps the vibration from irritating the perineal area.

How to say no...
I have trouble dealing with close family understanding me not being able to take a 1.5 hour car ride to their house for a cookout, knowing it will make my bladder flare. They just don't get it and don't understand when I say I don't think I can make it because I know the car ride to and from your house will cause me intense pain, frequency and urgency for days afterward. They don't get how a car ride can be that difficult. I feel so guilty and don't know how to say no. I guess I'll end up suffering in pain just to make my family happy even though I know it's not the best thing for me. The guilt of not being able to see them is killing me. Any ideas on how to deal with family members that just don't get it?Tags: None
