• Going home to Vermont for Vacation

My husband and I are going to Vermont to see my family for vacation the first week of July. Any traveling suggestions. We are riding our Honda Goldwing. My husband already knows we have to make many stops along the way. I will let you know how I make out on this trip. I am a little scared of this long trip with the IC.

Take along some pillows --- small ones work best for me, but be sure to have several. Your own drinking water is important so you'll want to have a cooler for water. When we travel I drink bottled spring water. I always take along some antispasmodics and pain medication "just in case" --- somehow I feel more relaxed if I know it's there.

Having IC safe snacks can be important too.

    Wear loose, comfortable clothing.

And, most important, have a good time.

    Sending an encouraging hug,
    Donna

I've been curious about travel tips, too. Donna, when you say bring several small pillows - are you meaning to sit on in the car? Is there any particular kind of arrangement of pillows that works best? Maybe that's not even what you meant... We're doing a long trip twice this summer and I'd like to try anything I can. I spent a week at the beach fairly flared up last year.

Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)

Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)

I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.

The benefit of having small pillows is that you can sit on one, or you can change positions just slightly by putting a pillow in the small of your back, or sometimes behind your neck. I like the small ones because they are so versatile. I have an IC pillow to sit on too (See the shop & subscribe section of the ICN site).

If you can't find the pillows in the bedding department check out the sporting goods department.....they are 1/2 the size of a regular pillow. I use one for the seatbelt that goes over the very tender bladder and one on my back at my waist. The most they should cost you is $3.99 and they are WELL worth the investment.

Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions for my trip to Vermont. I only get to see my family once a year. I already have the seat cushion, I am going to try it out on our motorcycle this weekend. Thanks again.

Seat belt tip: If you pull out the shoulder belt and clip a clothespin on the belt right where it comes out of the bracket, it will keep the shoulder and seat belt very loose --- and if you do have an accident the clothespin pops off and the seatbelt tightens.

We are going to Malletts Bay, Colchester, Vermont. That is near Burlington, Vermont and is located right on Lake Champlain. I grew up in Vermont and all of my family is there. Can't wait to see them again.

How was your vacation? It was soooo hot here this past week, I felt like I was going to melt. Since we hardly get heat waves we do not have air conditioning, which makes surviving the heat even harder. Judith
