  • Off to Bermuda...and scared!

I should be so excited about my upcoming Bermuda trip. We leave in 10 days! I am so worried about this vacation. What in the world am I going to eat and drink? Can I trust their bottled water? There is no way I can pack enough of bottled water for 10 days in 1 suitcase. Breakfast and dinner should be okay but lunch is always a difficult time. I usually eat cottage cheese and blueberries or pears, left-over dinner, or Hormel safe turkey lunchmeat sandwich. I do not think any of these will be options in Bermuda. We will be living on restaurant food. Any suggestions?????? One good thing.....it will probably be the first time I go on vacation and lose weight instead of gain!!!!!!

I too am worried about driving with family to San Francisco. I think I'll buy a female pee cup and wipes. I don't want my husband to have to stop every hour. I already mentioned that I am worried about taking the trip.

Is it safe for you to order plain rice and grilled chicken or fish?
Many restaurants offer alternate foods because of people with certain food allergies. Give it a try!

        Oh........and have tons of fun!!!!!!

            Dawn,
Don't stress too much over it, I'm sure you'll be able to find something on the menus that are ok. We took a cruise to Bermuda two years ago for our 25th Anniversary and it was fabulous! You'll love Bermuda. I was on the cruise though so there were lots of choices for food, I didn't go to any restaurants there so I can't help you there. I'm sure you'll be ok, just eat plain stuff and bring plenty of pain meds just in case! Have a great trip.

I'm 47 years old, married 27 years. I have two wonderful boys and two wonderful grandchildren. I was diagnosed in 1994. Life has certainly thrown me many many surprises, all of which I'm trying to stay positive and hopeful, and I try to think about my blessings not my misfortunes, when possible. Stay Strong!

I'm worried too -- off for kayaking and camping after recently diagnosed in a few weeks. I refuse to give up the trip (as some said I should), as I have planned it for more than a year. Even if it's sort of a "last hurrah."

But, I'll take my pain meds, my Prelief, snack bars I CAN safely eat (some sold here) also one made from almonds and coconut by KIND. I know it won't be easy, but I still have so many dreams that I don't want to let go of. I'm determined not to let IC be a wall between me and those dreams. I'm hoping that by still doing these things, maybe (even though I hate to stand out) I can help inform others.

And I'm just going to try to be "in the moment," not always easy. I had an awful session on the phone with United Airlines about being permitted to board early, so I've sent them an e-mail about IC. My doctor did give me a letter to help with such things.

I hope that your trip goes well -- that you're able to stay well -- and most of all to relax and have a good time.

Help measures in process -- hope to start PT, etc. Main pain meds: HEAT, Tylenol, Alleve, Working on diet!

I am not my illness -- it's just a facet, I aim to enjoy life and pursue my dreams! I hope it makes me a more compassionate human being.

Dawn--dont stress over this vacation because thats a sure-fire way to guarantee a bad time. Bermuda is a tourist area as you know-I'm sure most places, if not all are more than able to accommodate your dietary needs.
I've been on 2 vacations (getting ready to go on the 3rd) since being diagnosed so I can surely understand your concerns. Trust me when I say that worrying isnt going to do you any good, and I guarantee you're going to be posting when you get back about what a relaxing and fun time you had.

                Wishing you a safe fun-filled stress-free vacation!

I totally love traveling and haven't had any problems finding IC safe foods in restaurants. I sometimes have to resort to a hamburger when we're on the road, but I order it with lettuce only and that works fine.

I was on the internet and found that two pharmacies online carry Travel John's which are portable pee bags that become gel once pee'd into. I have to check if those are available at the store too.
