When we think of Memorial Day, we sometimes just think about having a 3-day weekend, along with the heavy traffic, crowded campgrounds, and gasoline prices!

When I was a child, we called it "Decoration Day" and families got together and put flowers on the graves of those who are gone. I fondly remember my mother carefully counting how many flower arrangements would be needed. After making sure all our family plots had been decorated, we all got together at an aunt's home (she lived near the cemetery) for a pot luck and visiting. What I remember most was the discussions of our ancestors --- it's where I learned who they were and why we should remember them.

I hope everyone will have a safe holiday weekend --- and spend some time thinking of those who are no longer with us.
