  • Sex and IC

I haven't had sex with my boyfriend since I was diagnosed with IC and I am truly petrified.

Does everyone with IC find sex to be awful? Does it always induce flares or are some people ok with it?

    Re: Sex and IC

There is a great thread about having safer sex while having IC in this forum somewhere, many great tips.
I am lucky, it does not hurt me, but I have more urgency next day. Funnily though, last 2 times, second day after sex I have felt really great; I think it helps relaxing muscles. I believe you can just try, but use organic coconut oil as lubricant. Just be careful, but it is possible that it will not hurt you

I know from chatting with you Krist that we have similar symptoms so that's nice to hear! PS my Uro wants to try Cysta Q first, then if that doesn't work we're gong to do the Uracyst. Thanks

        Re: Sex and IC

Developing a satisfying sex live can be a challenge with IC in the picture; it takes a lot of open communication, experimentation, patience, and lubricant --- lots of it --- even if you don't feel you need it. I prefer something that's water soluble like KY, but I have seen reports about using many other substances.

          Re: Sex and IC

There are lots of different ways to have sex. Most people think of sex as intercourse but if you think of everything you and your partner do as sex, it can take the pressure off for "performing right". I don't know how detailed I can get, but I feel comfortable saying that my boyfriend and I have had sex several times since my flare up has subsided but we haven't had intercourse. It's also felt good and been enjoyable for both of us.

It really helps to keep an open mind.

            Re: Sex and IC

for me as make it burns a lot and bothers but I guess me and my partner love each other enough not worry much about that we worry more about the disease and support. I might try again someday when I feel comfortable and not in pain.

When it comes to intercourse with me I find I can't have sex often I just feel like I need to pee every 10 mins or so. Does anyone else have this? If so how do you go about it?

                Re: Sex and IC

I found that Slippery Stuff lab is better for me than others. I have sensitive skin using this helped.
For a while I got such bad spasms afterwards I could hardly walk, my dr RXed me a script for a type of Valium, I took this per for a while, after a bit I started taking it post and found I didn't need it every time, it works fast so this was ok, now I seldom need it, but keep a script just in case.
My are with you all. May you all find a way to peace and joy in your lives.
