    Glad to hear your news Jen. You are definitely in my thoughts for tomorrow!

    I hate to say this, but I aways reached out for the nurse that had the needle with the morphine and anti nausea meds since I was so afraid that I would start hurting and being sick! But it did seem forever before they took me to my hubby, but it was probably just a few minutes. I remember one time after waking up after one of my hydros, I saw the nurses standing around at the station at the post op room. I think there were only a few patients in there at the time. I was asking when I would be able to get my underwear on. I kind of yelled out that I see ya'll standing there...bring me my underwear! I just kept making a big deal about my underwear. My hubby said that I was telling EVERYONE down the hall that I needed my underwear on. I am sure I left an impression on the nurses. My hubby said that I must have been on some good drugs!

    The only sushi I will eat is the kind WITHOUT anything raw in it..except cucumbers and avocado. No raw fish for me, ever! I just can't do it. Harris Teeter makes a GREAT cooked blue crab sushi with avocado in it and THAT I can't get enough of. No wasabi for me either...actually makes my bladder SHUDDER thinking about it. LOL

    Anyway, I'm glad he's doing better and I hope he's learned his lesson! Let us know the outcome of the health inspector at the restaurant!

    Ever since Microbiology class in nursing school, I've never been able to eat raw fish, or rare meat, food that has sat out, Mayonnaise if it has touched other food....

    I'm a paranoid basketcase when it comes to food and bacteria.

    Oh, Sharon... I totally understand about not wanting to spit that out at the Club!!

    I used to like sushi, but I actually got food poisoning from it once -- not a bad case, but some vomiting and diarrhea for several hours nonetheless. After that, I've never been keen on it again. John always wants to go get it, but I always order the cooked stuff on the menu now.... I bet he will too!!

    :woohoo: Hubby is on the mend. I am so happy for both of you.

    Raw Tuna...YUCK!!!!! I tried a small bite of it once at a Wine Dinner and all I wanted to do was spit it out. Sadly, I was with people who would have thought that was gross so I had to swallow it. (Jen...I was at the Club).

    So glad he is feeling better......that was pretty scary!! I have had food poisoning before but not near as bad as your husband had it.

    Good luck tomorrow with your surgery. I know you are so ready to get it done. Can't wait to hear all of your good results

    Oh Jen, I am so glad to hear things are slowing down for him! Yay!!! And it's fabulous to hear that they jumped right on this too, the sooner things are caught, the more people can be spared. At it's scary cause "the" way to serve tuna like that is seared on the outside, raw in the middle (bleck) - so it's pretty much a guarantee that people will order it that way. Nothing like Russian Fish Roulette!!! Do keep us posted on that!

    And I too am really happy to hear he gets to go with you! Better than a security blanket! Me, same way - "where's Jeremy?" Although, apparently coming out of it, I am quite humorous while still fuzzy. But I don't remember a thing about that stuff, lol.

    i do the same exact thing.last 3 surgeries,i was asking for hubby semi-conscious!!! they kept telling me i had to wait last time,i was so drugged i think i asked every 30 seconds.

    I really get the willies when I even think about eating fish that isn't thoroughly cooked. It's such a wonderful place for bacteria.

    I'm glad John is going to be able to take you to the hospital. If you're like me, the minute I'm awake I want to be able to reach out and touch Terry.

    So glad to hear he is feeling better Jen. That is really scary to think that he could have been even worse off if he had not gone to the doctor when he had. Hopefully he'll never order rare fish while out again! Good luck w/ Friday's surgery!

    Hubby is Up and Around

    Well, it looks like my husband John is starting to get better after his bout with severe food poisoning. He got up, got dressed, walked the dog, and even went to the store today. :woohoo: He is also planning on going back to work for one day tomorrow to get things taken care of before he has to take me to the hospital for surgery on Friday.

    He is still not back to normal, unfortunately... he has had loose stools a few times today, even though it is now three and a half days later (but we have pretty much narrowed down the cause to a dangerous strain of E. Coli and with this strain, it can be 5-10 days before the patient is back to normal). However, he has only been to the bathroom three times, which is much better than every 20 minutes Sunday night/early Monday morning, and each time he's gone there has been, in his words, "more actual poop and less blood" in the toilet. His pain is also decreasing, and tonight he was STARVING -- a great sign. He ate a bowl of chicken soup and a big bowl of plain rice

    Also, I called the health department about this and they called John back today. They asked him a lot about what he'd eaten in the three days preceeding the onset of symptoms, whether anyone had eaten the same stuff on those days. It was just me, usually, except for one day we went to a seminar and ate pizza at it last week. Really, we've been eating the same stuff almost entirely except for that night at the restaurant we are complaining about, when we both had different entrees. They also asked whether or not we knew of anyone else getting sick, but again, that was a no -- no one from the seminar we attended is ill, and of course, I'm apparently not either. They asked a lot about his symptoms and asked for his doctor's name and number, and permission to call him if necessary.

    The upshot is, the inspector who called us was riled up and pretty convinced that it was this dangerous E. coli strain (possibly the one that caused the recent Taco Bell and spinach E. coli outbreaks where people died, believe it or not) -- she headed to the restaurant we ate at immediately after speaking to John for a little surprise inspection! I am really glad I called just the health department and didn't call to let the restaurant know too -- this way, they didn't have a chance to "clean up" before the inspector showed up, and it's more likely something will be found.

    We should be hearing from them again with updates shortly. It's pretty scary to think that my husband may have been a victim of a deadly E. coli outbreak....

    Thankfully he's pretty young and healthy, and I was able to get him to his doctor right away!!!!!!!!!!!
