  • A Great Friend

I have one of the best friends that a person could ask for. Her name is Laura and she recently moved to Maine. I don't get to talk to her or see her much anymore but when I came home today there was a GIANT box from her in the mail. She has twin boys that are 5 and she sent me TONS of clothes that they have outgrown.:woohoo: :woohoo:
Since Griffin is so big, he wears a size 3T and sometimes already a 4T and he's only 2 1/2 the clothes that her boys just grew out of either fit Griffin now or will very soon.
I felt like it was Christmas in April, she sent me so much stuff, there most be 30-40 pairs of pants alone and that's not counting the long and short sleeve shirts, sweatshirts and jackts and tons of pj's. I have to wait a little while to call her so hopefully she won't be in the middle of dinner to tell her how much I appreciate it.

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

Proud wifey of Shane, mommy to Griffin, and step-mom to Logan and Gage
Also proud mom to the best Bullmastiff on earth, Claus

Yea, it's so great and then I either pass them on to my neighbor who's son is a couple months normal and not monster sized or give them to my cousin to hold because she's havihg a boy in a week in a half. Keep passing them on until they fall apart is my philosophy lol

Oh, that's great Christine! My cousin used to give me all her daughter's outgrown clothes for my Susannah, and it was a huge help (and she had excellent taste, LOL). With four kids, you must need clothes all the time. That is so nice of your friend to ship them all the way from Maine!

I am with you on passing them on! I give all Susannah's outgrown clothes now to her best friend Laura, who is only a little younger but a lot smaller, and then when Laura outgrows them her mom brings them back so I can give them to my next-door neighbor.

Unfortunately, we don't get hand me downs from the cousin anymore; she is only a year older, and Susannah is actually bigger than she is now. So I'm buying all the clothes now, but it's okay. We got help when we needed it, and we're happy to be able to pass it forward now.
Je vous souhaite de la joie, de la bonne santée, et tout ce qu'il y a de bon dans la vie.
Wishing you happiness and good health, and all the best out of life.

          Peace, Carolyn

Nothing wrong with hand-me-downs. When my kids were young I would get a lot of them and then past them on to other people. Now, I do my clothes with my friend - who doesn't work anymore and she doesn't want to just get rid of the clothes anymore so she gives them to me first. I really appreciate it!

That is great! I know what ya mean about it seeming like Christmas when you get a bunch of hand me downs! We have a hand me down party in the spring and fall in my neighborhood. We bring all the clothes that the kids have outgrown, plus the ones of our own that we dont like anymore, or dont fit. Then, we all swap out. Everybody goes home with piles and piles of stuff! We also usually bring beauty products that didnt work for us, like foundation that we bought that ended up being the wrong color, or perfumes that we loved in the store but didnt smell the same on us, etc. It is always a blast! Our next one is this week. I am hosting it this year, and I can hardly wait! We always make it a potlock too, so it is never much work for the hostess.

My fav was one we did a few years ago. My sis in law, a hairdresser, came. She gave us all new cuts and styles for free. Her coworker, a manicurist, gave us all free manis. Since I am the gardner of the bunch, I had started the plants for everyone for the gardens from seed, and gave them to everyone. Another neighbor is an awesome cook, so she brought everyone some crusty homemade bread and soup to take home for dinner for the next night, or that could be frozen for a nite we wanted "off". Everyone brought their specialty to the party, in additon to the clothes, and it was the best ever! I would have loved to do another one like that this time, but just didnt get my act together in time. But, it will still be a blast. I cant wait!

I agree that it is so important to pass on the hand me downs. It would be such a waste to have these things in landfills when someone else could use them. I also agree that it was wonderfully thoughtful of your friend to mail the clothes to you. She sounds like a gem!
