  • Spiritual Passages

    Just noticed my AA/NA board is gone... ( Soooo, thought this board was the closest to it. I wanted to post this helpful passage. If any of you have neat, inspiring passages like this, feel free to post them on this thread.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    "And acceptance is the answer to ALL my
    problems today. When I am disturbed, it is
    because I find some person, place, thing, or
    situation -- some fact of my life -- unacceptable
    to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept
    that person, place, thing, or situation as being
    exactly the way it is supposed to be at this
    moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in
    God's world by mistake. Until I could accept
    my alcoholism, I could not stay sober; unless
    I accept life completely on life's terms, I
    cannot be happy. I need to concentrate not so
    much on what needs to be changed in the world
    as on what needs to be changed in me and in my
    attitudes."
    c. 1976, Alcoholics Anonymous, page 449
    Diagnosed August 2001
    Current IC meds: Elmiron (since 2001), Levaquin (one pill after intercourse to prevent UTIs), Effexor (for depression & anxiety)
    Past IC meds: Amitriptyline (Elavil), Hydroxyzine (Vistaril), Detrol LA, Lexapro (for depression & anxiety, but also helped my IC) (They all helped, but I was able to discontinue them.)
    I've been virtually symptom free and able to eat & drink whatever I'd like for about 8 years now.
    “We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way.” ~ Viktor Frankl
    “You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.” ~ Brian Tracy
    Here is another good one. I think this one is AA also but don't know. I saw it in cross stitch and did it and it now hangs in my living room.
    "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference."
    Thanks Kim this is a good topic.
      Thanks, dyno - I love that prayer.
      Here's another good one:
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

      Do It Anyway

      People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered;
      Forgive them anyway.

      If you are kind people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives;
      Be kind anyway.

      If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
      Succeed anyway.

      If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
      Be honest and frank anyway.

      What you spend years building, someone could  destroy overnight;
      Build anyway.

      If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
      Be happy anyway.

      The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
      Do good anyway.

      Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
      Give the world the best you've got anyway.

      You see in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
      It was never between you and them anyway.

        Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow".
