OMG 12 hours w/o peeing, I would be putting the cath in myself by that point and I've never done it before. I hope that you are feeling better today and that the hydro gives you some relief April. You will be in my thoughts today.
      Christine

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

I absolutely find this very hard to believe. I know I had a massive cow after my hysterectomy 2 hours after they took my cath out and I could not go. I did have to let them do a bladder scan and explain to them that I had a 200cc bladder awake. I threatened to call my doctor himself, they were quick to cath me. I seriously think that this is uncalled for, and can't come close to imagining the staff not cathing you when you have not voided in 13 hours and in pain.

This sounds crazy..Dont they know that this could damage your bladder even more by not cathing you? I would have been screaming No one should have to suffer like that..

Wishing you a speedy recovery April! I hope this hydro works well for you. An IC Specialist would be a great idea even after this hydro.

Well Wishes. I hope you feel better and are out of that Hospital and able to rest at home.

                Hey Guys,

Thank you so much for your prayers and support at a time when both Aaron and I need it the most. I am doing a whole lot better now. I had the hydro/cysto this morning...well around noon. I am set to go home tomorrow and was going to go today, but when my PCP came by she asked if I needed I.V. pain management for one more day. I felt like I did so I opted for that. We probably will still get to go see family on Thursday.

I am just really sore and I think once the soreness fades, things will be a whole lot better. They added back my Duragesic patch at 50mcg and I am getting Demerol and Phenergan every three hours. I plan to ask my PCP to write some Meperghan Fortis (Demerol/Phenergan combined in a pill) tomorrow so that I can take them if need be while we're traveling. My husband's family lives about five hours or so away and I know it will be a challenge. However, we're looking forward to leaving here for awhile.

                Happy 4th of July!!!

                  April,
I'm glad that you feel the hydro helped you but I would really reconsider traveling that far so soon after having your hydro. I'm sure that you don't want to disappoint Aaron and his family but do you really think you're going to be up for that? I would have never attempted a trip like that so soon after my hydro and I didn't have all the pain issues that you had that caused you to have this hydro in the first place.
Whatever you do I hope you feel better soon.

                    April,
I have to agree with Christine.. The trip is going to put alot of trauma on your body esp the riding in the car.. And what if you start hurting really bad. You are going to be 5 hours away from your doctor..I know its your life hun, but you should really reconsider the trip until a few days later just to be safe..But if you do decide to go my prayers are with you..

                      Hey Guys,

Thank you SO much for the advice. I spoke with Aaron and told him we need to wait until this weekend or next Monday if he wants me to go. I also gave him the option to go without me and told him I would stay with my grandparents. He did not want to leave me behind so he agreed to change the day we leave. I am getting out of here tomorrow during the early afternoon and then I can rest more. I have been having some hellacious spasms and pain from the hydro/cysto.

My URO came in and told me that it would more than likely get worse before I see any benefit from it. So, I guess this is worse. I am being given Skelaxin, Valium, Demerol/Phenergan, and Pyridium. All this really does help...and we must not forget the Ambien. I sleep a little when I have it.

                      Thanks again, guys!

I think the demerol alone would knock me out. I am glad that it is all over and hope you feel better soon. Hopefully you will be up to traveling this weekend. I know travel on a good ic day can be rough.

                            Hi TigerGal,

Yeah, Demerol is pretty potent...but narcotics don't make me sleep anymore. For my cysto w/ hydro, I was given about double the medication they usually use for sedation. I have become VERY physically tolerant to almost every narcotic out there.

                            Hope all is well.

wow, thats a whole lot of pain meds. You did say you were going to a pain clinic right? I am curious what they can possibly do for you for the pain. I know you want to have a baby, that would become a problem if you are in constant pain like that. We should not have to live like that, and take so many pain meds and then the body has become tolerant to these strong pain medication. My mom had hydros every 6 months, is there a possibility that you can do that. Eventually no pain meds will help you, and as we get older, people have been known to become allergic to everything. I would make a point to talk to my uro about a on going Hydros every 6 to 12 months, to keep some elasticity in your bladder.
I really hope you find pain relief.

I hope this comes across as it is intended, and not snotty or anything but

Is there anything, anything at al that your doctors can do for you?? Being on that many medications, especially the narcotics, is scary (just my opinion) in two different ways, one being that you have developed such a high tolerance for the pain medication and two being that it is a lot of narcotic!

I really feel for you, no one should have to be THAT medicated in order to function. I just wonder about your future and also, if you are that tolerant of those medications and you go to have surgery, won't there be a problem getting you to sleep? Or maybe I am wrong here?

Girl, you have got your hands full and I feel so bad for you. I hope your doctors can find you some relief...just if it were me, I'd be freaked out that my tolerance is that high--but what can you do, if you want to be able to function? Your spot is not one I am envious of.

I was on a demerol drip after I had my c-section because they had given me a huge amount of pitocin to shrink my uterus back since I didn't have a vaginal birth and I was not breastfeeding, and the demerol barely touched that pitocin pain. After six hours of being on that drip (it was 1 a.m. at this point) I wanted nothing more than to go to sleep and demerol was really knocking me out but the contractions were excruciating. Point of this story is, that Demerol is STRONG!!!! You must have one heck of a tolerance.

Good luck to you and I hope you are able to enjoy your trip with hubby.
Mommy to 2 crazy, wonderful kids and wife to the most amazing man in the world!
