  • my best friend's husband

    Hey everyone,

My best friend's husband has brain cancer. She found her DH on the floor at home crying in pain from a headache so she took him to a clinic & they gave him a shot to make the headache go away. It went away after about 15 minutes but they suggested he go to a regular hospital to get a CAT scan to find out the cause of the headache, so he did. That's when they found a tumor the size of a lemon in his head! They removed it two days later. It's so hard to believe b/c he is only 30 years old. They believe they got most of the tumor but he'll be starting chemo and radiation here in a few weeks. Here is an article about it:

If that link doesn't work you can copy & paste into your browser.

I talked to him today and he's in really good spirits and doesn't see what the big deal is or why everyone is so concerned. (Duh).

Maybe he just has more courage than I would have. But I do have faith that God is watching over my friends and their little ones. I'm really thankful that my friend is a teacher and today is her last day of school. So she'll be able to be w/ him and help hold down the fort. Although he plans on returning to work in only 2-3 weeks! Thanks for listening to me today.

    Current Rx Meds:
    Atarax, Ditropan, Elmiron
Prior to pregnancy: The above 3 meds PLUS Neurontin, Topamax, Loratadine, continuous OrthoCyclen, Lidocaine Patches PRN, Temazepam PRN, & Vicodin PRN
    Hooray for babies!
Misc. lifesavers: Hot baths, ThermaCare Heat Wraps, Ice Packs. The IC Diet has changed my life.
    Didn't work for me:
Detrol LA, Amitryptiline, Morphine, Percocet, TENS unit, Interferential Pain Stimulator Unit, Hypogastric Plexus Nerve Block
    IC (Mod-Severe) since 1996

UPDATE: 5/21/08 Pregnancy and breastfeeding afterwards have alleviated my IC symptoms more than anything, EVER. Most days are 100% pain free & I now have normal frequency (as long as I take these 3 meds).

My little sweetie! Jack weighed 9 lbs 12 oz and was born via c-section on Feb. 28, 2008...

I have been diagnoised for 6 1/2 years now. I have taken a long break from the ICN but really miss helping out my fellow IC patients and want to get back into posting.
1st hydro 4/07 showed no visible signs of IC but tons of mast cells in all my biopsy samples which did prove IC.
2nd hydro 4/13/09 showed dark purple glomerulations and I had a capacity of 450 cc's. This hydro proved that my IC had progressed.
I have tried every oral medication as well as rescue instills and DMSO.

I have been lucky enough to see Dr Hanno, the top IC specialist in PA who has told me due to the fact that I have not responded to any "standard" treatments that I have a severe, end stage case of IC with a horrible quality of life (didn't have to tell me that last part!)

I believe attitude plays a significant part during hard times. I have no doubt that this young man will make a full and complete recovery--his spirit seems incredibly strong.

Take care of your friends and yourself, LeeAnn...
