Happy Mothers Day To All Moms.

    What Every Mom Needs

In the local MOPS [Mothers Of preschoolers] group, mentors are modeled on the "Titus woman" principle, found in Titus 2:3-5:"Teach the older women to be revernt in the way they live...to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-con-trolled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God." They are"mothering mentors." A mothering mentor is a woman who has scaled the mountain you intend to climb. She's gone before you. She knows the path. She knows the toeholds. She comes alongside you and offers encouragement that you, too, can make it. From her own life experience, she can teach on such subjects as how to mother, how to organize life, how to develop your abilities and character. For a young mother who has never seen good mothering in practice before, [the mentor] might model mothering. She might give a glimpse of what marriage looks like down the road or how to hurdle difficult spots in friendship. Mentors are all around us. They are in churches, in families, in cross-generational friendships. If you're eager to find mentoring mother. look for qualities like honesty, wisdom, discernment and encouragement. Watch from a distance before pursuing a relationship. Then, work your courage and ask if you can poke around a bit to see how she does what she does with her kids. Mentoring doesn't have to be formal arrangement, nor will you always learn everything you need to know from one single person. A mothering mentor is not a know-it-all. She's not an expert with degrees and credentials trailing after her name, although she might possess formal training. She's simply a mom who's made it through some of the most challenging years of mothering. She's learned from her mistakes, enjoyed a few success and can now share her insights with those of us who are coming alone behind.
