  • My Sister/Melanoma

I wish that I could come here and be supportive of others right now but I just don't have the strength. My sister sees the dr on Thursday and will begin interferon treatments on Monday. It will be 5 days a week for 4 weeks, they will retest and go from there. There is a study going on at University of Michigan Hospital (which is where she is going) using interferon and 2 other drugs. All her information will be put into a computer and the computer will decide if she is a good candidate or not for this study....we are PRAYING she get in because without it, it doesn't look too promising. All of the numbers that they go by to 'measure' melanoma could not possibly be worse. I can't free my mind from these thoughts.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE pray for my sister~

My sister starts her interferon treatments on Monday. She met her oncologist on Tuesday and absoluately loves him. He gave her his home phone # and pager #. I guess the treatments are really bad and not too many make it for the required 20. Not because of physical side effects but because of the depression it causes. Since my sister has never been depressed (other than deaths and things everyone gets depressed over) and just started on an antidepressant 2 weeks ago it gives her a much better chance.

The longest he's seen a melanoma of this type live is 12 years. There is no life expectancy for this kind of cancer because it is always fatal (unless something else gets you first)

She's got a GREAT attitude. A GREAT support system going. She's managed to pull me out of my own crap twice in the last week because she needed to be taken somewhere and is so sick of being babied by her husband and 25 year old daughter she said "I NEED to be around some BIG PEOPLE!" Even for as sick as I've and as hard as it was to do it....it was helpful to both of us.

                              SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Thankx so much for all of the prayers for the last month (sorry I didn't get to the update real quick) and now, please surround my sister in a white circle~
