  • recent food sensitivity reults

Hello, I recently had a hair follicle test to check for food sensitivities and the main ones that are going to be hard for me that came up are:

    ACUTE REACTION

    Bread - Wholemeal & Brown
    Polenta

    and INTERMEDIATE REACTION

    Bread, white bread
    Buckwheat
    Rice

I asked the herbalist and am waiting on answers, the only thing I know right now is she said brown rice is ok. But for the others like Polenta, would that mean corn tortillas? and I wonder if the breads are mentioned because of flour in general or if gluten free would be ok?

If anyone else has these sensitivities what do you substitute for your breads?? Any suggestions appreciated.

Diagnosed with IC sept. 2008, treatment then was hydrodistension, heparin instills for about 4 months and IC diet; symptoms lasted until sept 2009. Then only a couple of relapses overworking, stress etc. Then completely in remission until Jan. 2016 now pretty much symptom free as of mid august 2016.

Symptoms: overall body aches, dryness feeling at vaginal opening, sitting makes it worse, standing makes it worse, stress makes it worse, no frequency or urgency, worse symptom is at night with panging of uretha/bladder.

    - went on diet, started Cysto Renew 3/31/16 and yoga at least twice a week.
    - tried uribel but really not for my symptoms since it seems it is for frequency and painful urination which I don't have
    - Ativan when needed to relax.
    - Elmiron only took for a couple of days; didn't like it
    - took atarax 1/2 10mg atarax pill at night really helped but gave me nightmares
    - tramadol worked great for back aches
    - generic claritin D worked best for me for calming bladder down and my panging
    - still taking cysto renew 4x a day and believe this and diet helped the most.
    - took dosage of cysto renew down to 2x a day and still ok

One of my now adult children was allergic to wheat as a child --- I was able to buy soy breads and buns, The texture was very nice --- I don't know if they are still available, but you could check on the internet. There also might be recipes so you could make your own breads. I have a recipe for potato starch sponge cake if you're interested --- it can also be made into a jelly roll. It was a favorite of my son.

If you're sensitive to white rice, it's surprising that brown rice is okay --- brown rice still has bran that gives it the brown color --- to get white rice, the bran is removed.

thanks she mentioned that gluten might be the culprit so not just wheat. I do make my own bread sometimes but it is with wheat flour , still a little confused, but read up on gluten a little, apparently it is in all wheat, rye, barley, pasta, crackers so i'm thinking anything with flour. I can start buying non-gluten items I guess. I am supposed to stop all for 6 weeks. I didn't believe the corn thing but had pork tacos last night on corn tortillas and it did bother me! Butter and yogurt also came up as a sensitivity. Luckily these days there are tons of stuff to get around this I found some plant based butter and now they have almond milk "yogurt". Just starting to read what grains contain the "bad" gluten and came across this will have to decipher later. Just great huh?

Here's the potato starch sponge cake recipe:

          Oven: 350

          Ingredients:
          4 eggs
          1/2 cup white sugar
          pinch of salt
1/2 cup potato starch (available in most grocery stores)
          Flavoring (vanilla, almond, or ?)

Separate eggs. Beat egg whites until very stiff (you can't overbeat). Set aside.
Beat egg yolks, gradually adding sugar and salt, until they look light colored and creamy. Gradually add potato starch and flavoring;.
Fold egg yolk mixture into beaten egg whites until smooth.
Bake in 2 loaf pans or small tube pan for about 20 to 25 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Turn upside down until cool; remove from pan as you would angel food cake.

For jelly roll: bake on 1" deep waxed paper lined cookie sheet (about 11" X 13"). When you remove from oven , immediately run a knife around the edges, then invert on a towel. Peel off waxed paper and replace with a fresh piece of waxed paper, roll and allow to cool. When cool, unroll, remove waxed paper, and spread with jelly or jam and roll again. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or spread lightly with frosting.

Rice crackers, corn tortillas / chips, potatoes / plain chips... Check out alternate grains, such as oats, quinoa, etc...
Also, look up Better Batter meal plan. They have the best gluten free blends I’ve ever used. Their new gum free bread blend is fantastic.
