Can't seem to win can we? For me constipation is annoying to my bladder as well, and straining for either a BM or to pee is never a good idea.

How about getting some more fiber in your diet, in the new forms that are out there? I did that when my Ditropan was constipating me horribly, I bought the Benefiber and added it to everything, but I did start out slowly and gradually increase my intake of it. Too much too soon can cause painful and annoying gas. I think the stool softener is a good idea as well, to help "smooth the way" for things, (pardon the pun! ) Flaxseed oil caps also helped me greatly - not only for the dry mouth etc from the Ditropan but I had the lovely unexpected bonus of less constipation and an easier time when I did have a BM!!

This is gross too. During flares and uti's like right now, I take milk of mag everynight. I have to drink extra water on top of what I normally would during flare/uti! The milk of mag waterdowns my stool so much, its like literally like urinating! gross I know, but the lack of constipation, and pushing hard keeps my pain more level. I wouldn't try this without consulting your doc becuase it could result in dehydration, but the lack of pushing during flares helps so much.

haha i love this site and all of you

haha... yeah... um... It is always, always bad to push and strain! As a little kid, I pushed too hard, and something went terribly wrong and so I filled the toilet with bright red blood instead. haha. It was horrifying. It was my first trip to the ER. Pushing too hard. haha. And what did the doc say? DON'T PUSH TOO HARD! So I hope you heed this particular advice cuz .. well if it happened again, I think it would be even more embarrasing as an adult. They'd be all "Has anyone EVER told you NOT to push so hard?" haha, back to the bladder, With us bleeding in the bladder and all as it already is, I would think that it is definately NOT healthy for the bladder that you ever strain much of anything ...let alone its neighbor.
I have had the WORST time with Blockage if I might say, while trying ANY ANTI-frequency medicine. It is so bad, that after a few days I give up, and just stop taking the medicine. Time after time, I tell myself I would so much rather pee 80 times a day, instead of dealing with such a terrible, painful, and miserable side effect. It really feels like the intestines, just stop and I still have to pee like 70 times instead. So if you are on one of these med's for frequency, such is likely the culprit.
As for what can help, I personally have had much success, in the past, having been once diagnosed with IBS and IGS, with Live and Active Cultures like acidophilus and what not. (usually called multi-million-dophillus or billion-dofillus) They have them in pill, powder, and liquid forms. The powder seems to be an almost instant relief and virtually tasteless as well. I can pretty much guarantee if you take enough of it (parts per million or even billions) you will successfully, and quickly, accomplish a much smoother landing, and plus it's good for the immune system too, so I mean.. worth a try ay? Yay for healthy bacteria!! (I do not intend to solicit or advocate any particular form of treatment/ yaddah yaddah disclaim away.. but it can't be illegal to share what worked for me).I hope for you all the best... and much ...much.. less frustrating trips to the lavatory. warmest regards

Status: Diagnosed October 2006 via cystoscopy with hydrodistention. Max anesthetized bladder capacity only 250 cc's. Mast cells and pinpoint bleeding found.

Remission for me means less pain for more days than not. Frequency is inevitable with a bladder this tiny! That is ok though. The difference between when I was diagnosed and now, is that I have embraced that fact. Me and the loo, we are one.

I also eat 2 containers of yogurt a day for IBS-C. No yogurt doesn't bother my IC any, the chineese food I ate yesterday is what got me

                What is Pyridium????
I will be 64 on April 15th. Disagnosed in January 2007, but must have had it for quite a while. Bladder capacity while sleeping is 700 cc. I also have Fibromyalgia, IBS with fissures at times, which are painful. I take Flexeril 10mg at bedtime; Diovan for blood pressure; Levoxyl for thyroid. I have agreed to do "rescue instillations," but haven't started them yet.

                  pyridium and poop

what is pyridium....the most helpful little thing! Here's the wiki explanation- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenazopyridine

I've had days where I take 2 pills 3 times a day. Sometimes I find that it helps me, other times not really. It deals mostly with any burning in the urethra with you pee. When I've had simple UTI's in the past this has been really great. It can also help with frequency.

And in regards to constipation, I would recommend FiberSure. It mixes with water, is clear, and has only a vague aftertaste. I dealt with a genetic defect colon prolapse- all my life until 4 years ago when I got it fixed. So I have tried every stool softener out there!!! Good old fashioned prunes are always a sure thing too. Being constipated exascerbates anything else going on in the body.
I had major surgery for a genetic rectal prolapse in Aug.05 which I believe links directly to my new Dx of....PFD! March.08. I'm working with a great PT named Zelda- I think the world of her I have the same feelings for the team at the Kaiser Center for Pelvic Pain in SF- amazing people.

I've had a cystoscopy, 2 cat scans, falied a potassium test and have had about 50 clean UA's.
This is my hot water bottle- the fish. I love him!
I'm also a big fan of my "Electric Fish," the TENS unit. Very helpful in a flare!

                  **I'm getting Botox next week!**
                  I take:
                  Oxybutynin 10mg
                  Elmiron 100mg 3x day
                  Gabapentin 300mg 3x day
Antihistamine, CystaQ, Bc, & Thyroid (125mcg) nightly

                  I've also taken:
                  Detrol LA
Oxybutynin patch and lower dose pill
                  Amitryptiline and Nortryptiline

Yep, Benefiber is ok as far as I know, never had any problems with it - and like the Fibersure mixes into anything, I put it in my morning mint tea etc. With the Benefiber I have not noticed any taste of any sort, so that's interesting about the Fibersure, but I haven't had any experience with the Fibersure

It's never good to strain/push to either have a BM or to urinate. My doctor told me it's okay to take milk of magnesia, but not to take it all the time. And I keep fleets enemas on hand so I can use one of those if I get really constipated. Stool softener can also be helpful.
