    Anyone can have lactose intolerance, whether or not they have IC. I know it sounds crazy, but I can't do skim milk, but 1% or 2% is fine. The only thing I can think of is to try going without it for a few days.

    I don't drink milk but I do have yoghurt and that affects me. I don't know if it's the dairy or probiotics or the protein in the yoghurt that affects me though. There's only one way to find out and that's to go off it and see how you go. PS don't substitute for soy milk or you'll have more trouble.

    I have had IC for about 10 years and controled it with diet for a long time. It's slowly gotten worse with the past year being much worse. My mother became ill fall of 2015 and passed away Jan1 2016. Stress is one of my worse triggers so was in a lot of pain thru it all. Since her passing and burial I've been in extreme pain with pains in my vagina and sometimes my urethra. About four days ago I decided to stop dairy and it has def made a difference. No more constant, excruciating pain. Am almost afraid to sat it tho still do have pai at times. I like milk, ice cream and cheese. Very strange. But I have found if I dump something into my body for long enough I will eventually have to stop. It's always been meds up to now. Take something for six months or a year and end up having to go off it. It happened with Cymbalta. The pain was bad. This seeming intolerance of my bladder to dairy is crazy since milk and vanilla ice cream are on the good list. Can the bladder be lactose intolerant?Am seeing a urologist this coming week and will likely end having a cystoscopy which I've never had. Dread : (

    Oh it just makes me so frustrated because I can't take Elavil. I'm hoping they find another med that doesn't give me bad side effects (I get gastroparesis from it... which is VERY painful).

    I do feel like everything liquid makes me worse (but that is just the bladder filling up which I can't hold much urine right now). The whole bladder training thing is frustrating and doesn't seem to be working at all.

    I just wondered about the milk because I drink a lot of it every day, plus I have cottage cheese often and mozzarella or ricotta cheese once in a while. I just can't give up my dairy... but since every day is bad, I wonder if my dairy is bad? I guess it couldn't hurt to try and cut it out for a couple of days.

    I don't have any problem with milk or diary, I'm not sure how it would effect the bladder. I think on the info I got from the dr the bad diary was like aged cheese and yogurt but milk should be okay? Before I started taking Elavil I was in pain pretty much everyday even when I was staying away from the stuff that should flare a person. What I realized was that my bladder doesn't flare from a lot of foods that some people would, I think it just needed the Elavil to calm down the constant pain.

    Dairy?

    Ok... I'm trying to figure this IC diet out. One thing I have every day (and have my entire life) is skim milk. I have 2-3 glasses every day. Since I just don't seem to be getting better, I wonder if I might have some response to dairy? I know that lactose intolerance results in bowel trouble and an allergy to dairy results in serious problems such as swelling of the tongue/esophagus, breathing trouble, etc. I just wonder if our bladders can become "lactose intolerant". Is anyone unable to do dairy (without GI trouble or allergy trouble). I'd hate to give up my dairy... because that is my major food group! I guess I should just try it for a couple of days, but I just wonder if that can happen...
