    PLEASE someone...fennel tea??

    i have horrible ibs and would like to try fennel tea. heather is having a sale woo hoo and i'd like to take advantage of it. is fennel tea IC SAFE??? please let me know your experiences. i haven't had anything but water in the past year & a half but the bloating from ibs is killing me.

    Tracy ~ 29 years old with Toxoplasmosis (from birth), Fibro/CFS (since age 13...ouch), severe IC, IBS-D, severe PFD (surgery made it even worse), vulvodynia, hiatal hernia, GERD, ulcers, severe gastritis, numbness/tingling in extremeties, pelvic nerve damage--mainly urethral, urinary retention, pelvic reconstruction 7.10.07 (fixed rectocele, rectal prolapse, lifted bladder, urethra, uterus, and repaired vaginal walls), Raynaud's, 2 severely herniated discs in neck and one in low back, anemia, PCOS, anxiety/depression/panic attacks (since forever). Still having major bowel problems (inability to empty rectum...any ideas?? ).

    I'd like to be on House, MD as a medical mystery.

    Married to Craig, a saint amongst men...who puts up with me and my eccentricities...

    I take: LIQUID Atarax, Flomax, Soma (yet again), acidophilus, Glucosamine/Chondroitin with MSM & collagen, d-mannose. MAJOR flare from Cystoprotek! Re-trying freeze dried aloe vera w/some decent results!

    Tried and failed: Elavil, Ultram, Prosed DS, Benadryl, Bentyl, Valium, Ativan, Zanaflex, Librax, Sanctura (all caused retention among other things), bladder instills (owwwwww!), Elmiron (allergic-throat tightening). Failed Interstim-no feeling in sacral nerves...

    I'm allergic to penicillan, sulfa, reglan, quinolones, clindamycin, and now LATEX!

    Hi,

    I never heard of anybody having problems with fennel...I use fennel with peppermint and cumin which works quit well......
    I'm german, diagnosed september 2005 with mild IC. Current meds: Elmiron, Uropol-S, IC diet.

      thanks muchly. you can use cumin and it doesn't cause a flare?

        Hi,

        yes, as cumin is good against bloating I use it a lot in tea. I don't like the taste but it helps me. It doesn't affect my IC and I never read in any book about IC or internet forum (and I'm online a lot :-)) ) that either of these cause problems.

        Hope you feel better soon...your son is very cute, congratulations..:-))

          thanks i will def. try it (just gotta wait for hubby to get paid,lol). now, for cumin...is this the cumin you buy in the store and use for cooking? sorry if that sounds dumb...i will try anything @this point. i weigh 89 lbs but still look 5 months pregnant 1/2 the time grrrrrrrrrr.

          thanks...my son is HUGE for a 7 month old. doesn't take after his mommy that's for sure.

            Hi,

            sorry to answer so late, I was on a very nice wedding this weekend...
            yes, it's the cumin you can buy for cooking, I just use it as tea.. Over here you get ready made fennel-cumin-pepermint mixtures for tea, which is quite convenient. But once I found out that it's the exact same thing than cooking-cumin I stopped buying it and made the mixtue myself..

              thanks everyone. i bought it and tried it...don't know if it really works yet. tastes yucky (like licorice...and i HATE licorice!) but i added some honey and it kinda mellowed it out a bit.

              i can't use peppermint unfortunately as i have HORRENDOUS acid reflux/hiatal hernia which gets set off by mint. haven't tried the cumin yet, i suspect it will do the same thing *sigh*.
