I'm 47 years old, married 27 years. I have two wonderful boys and two wonderful grandchildren. I was diagnosed in 1994. Life has certainly thrown me many many surprises, all of which I'm trying to stay positive and hopeful, and I try to think about my blessings not my misfortunes, when possible. Stay Strong!

Kari: Jicama (pronounced hickima) is a root vegetable, usually about the size of a grapefruit and shaped something like a beet. They are light brownish on the outside. When you peel them, the inside is almost white. I cut them in strips and we eat them raw. They are crunchy, kind of sweet, and very good.

I've had it once at a Vietnamese Restaurant that I absolutely love. They use lemon grass and other spices that actually allowed me to have a wonderful, tasty stir fry. The "egg roll" type thing that I ate had Jicama in it and it tasted great, with a great texture and none of it bothered my bladder. It was amazing. I've never seen it in the typical grocery store, but I'm sure places like Whole Foods, and other specialty markets most likely sell it.
04/17/09 Crohn's disease almost killed me with a combo of extreme constipation from pain medications. My bowel ruptured, I almost died from peritonitis and spent several days in the ICU then more in a private room on the floor. If you have any questions about severe constipation from pain meds please don't hesitate to send me a message.
I never heard of Lemon grass before, is it something we IC'ers could possibly tolerate? Does it have a Lemon type flavor?
I can tolerate it, well, at least that one time I had it I could tolerate it. I'm sure that it probably bothers some people, but I did ok with it. It does taste a little bit like lemon, has sort of an Asian flavor and I LOVED it. If I could find it in the store I'd buy it and try using it at home. Everyone is so different it's hard to say how it would effect you.
