  • Could rice milk be a problem??? Going crazy.

I'm following the IC diet pretty carefully because it is similar to the migraine diet I was already on. But I've had to make a few changes and drinking is one of them. I was only drinking water and decided to add in rice milk. But I have been suffering so much over the last two days. Today I had a glass of rice milk before going to the hair salon. I went pee four times while getting my hair colored and cut. I was so humiliated. Luckily no one noticed!

So I'm thinking the rice milk may not agree with me because of some ingredient. Can anyone tell me about drinks and ingredients and why certain things are so bothersome. I know that I cannot drink any sports drink. My bladder will be a mess! And tea is out of the question. I wish I knew why!
    Frances

Diagnosed: 2011 - have had symptoms for over 20 years. Diagnoses so far: Overactive Bladder, then IC, and now Myofacial Pelvic Pain Syndrome.

Medicines: For IC am doing PT, and will be taking Gabapentin, Ativan, Tramadol and Ambien. Ice packs and drinking vanilla shakes help. Foods that cause a flare, tomatoes, yogurt, coffee, soda, all sports drinks, and most teas. Take Verapamil, Naproxen (as needed), Omeprazole, Frova (as needed) and receive Botox shots(every three months) for migraines. For allergies I use Claritin and Flonase. (Feel free to ask me any questions about meds.)

Other conditions: Migraines, allergies, mild IBS.

I tried rice, almond , hazelnut and oat milk, unfortunately none of them is good for my bladder.

I am absolutely fine with rice milk. While everybody is an individual and a few could possibly have a problem with it, rice milk is generally regarded as being bladder friendly. There is original rice milk, enriched rice milk and also flavored rice milk. Which did you try? To begin with, the original with the fewest ingredients would probably be best to try.

        Hmmmm

I drink plain rice milk a lot and never have a problem with it. I would probably have to go pee 4 times anyway (and do) while getting my hair colored. Which is just 1 reason I've had to start doing it at home myself.
I'm sorry hope it was just a bad day for you and not the rice milk. If you try it again, good luck.

Read the lables it could be a preservative used in the one you bought.

It is hard to find drinks. Recently I tried a bit of blueberry juice, and water it down. I did okay with this but everyone is different.

Read the lables though a lot of juices add apple jucie to their juices. I can't do apple.

I drink waterand skim milk for the most part. when I can find it which is not very often I can drink some white hot choc.

Thank you so much for your fast replies. Seriously, I thought I was going nuts. I'm getting my period and usually this is a terrible time for me. Absolutely nothing will work to stop the urgency, even if I drink nothing! I'm going to give up the rice milk for a while and then add it back in later.

I want to add something about White Hot Chocolate. We have some where I live at Shaw's Supermarket. However, there are a lot of preservatives and MSG. I'd like to see the one you ladies mentioned because my daughters might enjoy it.

Thank you soooo much for the support!

Oh my gosh... LANDISH... is that a toilet with a happy face?... LOL... that's funny. I just noticed it. One has to have a sense of humor with IC I guess.

I drink Land O Lakes but I've also had Hersheys Bliss and not had much trouble with either one. I do take Prelief before.

Toto like you said we have to have a sense of humor, we have to smille some times, we cannot spend our life crying, IC won't go away if we cry.

I tried all the brands of different type of milk that are available in the market and I cannot drink them, just one of them caused me less disscomfort, it was an almond milk from Silk brand, it's delicious but it has sugar in it, and now I am trying to avoid sugar so I won't add additional inflamation to my body. Maybe you can tolerate it, who knows.

                  Good luck

Almond milk tends to be okay for Bob, esp the vanilla. It is a treat. You have to read labels, some brands have BHA or BHT. Can usually find the good stuff in the organic section of your store. Have actually spoken with some people who are lactose intolerant locally and they can drink raw cow's milk (we can get it in Maine) or goat's milk without problems. Some almond milks actually have less calories and fats than cow's. Sugar could be an issue with the almond, they tend to be sweeter, but actually have lower carbs. We all have to read those labels. Once you know exactly what to look for it only takes a couple of seconds. We hate to give up things we love, but it's only food, and many alternatives. Take care, Jill, wife of Bob

I'm curious about the sugar thing. I'm wondering if anyone knows how sugar affects IC. Perhaps that's the issue.

Sugar doesn't effect my IC, but I'm diabetic so I have to watch how much I eat.

rice milk flares me. I am positive it is the sea salt.

Anything with added B12 flares me. I'm really stumped trying to find a milk substitute. Seems added B12 in everything, especially Rice Dream and Silk Almond milk.

theres an Original/Classic type of rice dream that doesnt have anything weird: Ingredients: filtered water, organic brown rice (partially milled), expeller pressed high oleic safflower oil, sea salt.
but yeah, if you are sensitive to safflower or seasalt avoid it.
the enriched type has all sorts of no-no ingredients i believe
Recently diagnosed with IC after having pelvic pain for several years.
                              Valium
                              Pyridium (phenazopyridine) 100 3-4x a day
Bladder instills of lidocain and bicarb.
Aloe capsules 3x a day instead of Elmiron.
